Ruuuude.

Rarity can’t help it if she’s straight. (in this AU, at least) Though Twi isn’t exactly known for being good at flirting… or subtly.

Apologies, but when someone’s only comment is "please talk about this somewhere else" even if the image is what inspired the conversation, that’s less than helpful. I would disagree that talking about Sparity in an image that promotes it is ’off topic’ but yes, the topic has strayed far and wide since then. I’ll be happy to leave it where it is.

Please try to be less rude to people who you disagree with. In this case, they’re right – just because [thing] is present in an image doesn’t make it ok to tangent to any conversation under the sun about that [thing], and this has gone very far from the theme of the image.

I’m saying feelings change. What Celestia found cute and endearing in Twilight she might find attractive later in life when Twilight comes into her own.

Likewise Rarity has been shown to find the hero version of Spike appealing. Give him a decade to grow up and actually earn that physique and yes, she might actually view him as a potential dating partner.

Neither of these circumstances are disgusting inherently. Close friends can become more over time, and the familiarity only helps in the potential relatioship. The key is intent. Neither Celestia nor Rarity is trying to make Twilight or Spike into their ideal partner. That would in fact make it squicky.

I never said that Celestia was/is Twilight’s mother, nor did I say Rarity controls Spike’s life. I said that Celestia and Rarity had direct involvement with Twilight and Spike respectively when the latter two were children and the former two were adults. Don’t put words in my mouth to try and prove a point. You call me silly for exaggerating by using an incorrect word, then go on to say that I said things that were clearly not in my comment. I never made any assumptions about either Rarity or Celestia’s personalities. I was stating facts about their relationships with Spike and Twilight. Don’t derail a conversation with an incorrect analogy then try to save yourself by making baseless points, which happened through you putting words in my mouth.

As for your other points, the one with Twilight and Celestia was frankly unnecessary and doesn’t prove your point or add anything to the argument. The one with Rarity and Spike, for that I say that that is a fair point, but it doesn’t add anything either. I’m going against the ship overall, and you’re (correct me if I’m wrong) trying to say that just because Rarity didn’t have romantic feelings for a child doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be interested in that child after she literally took direct involvement with his journey into becoming more mature just because now he’s an adult. I don’t care about age gaps between two consenting adults, but you’re trying to say that it could happen with two people/a pony and dragon that knew each other when one was a child. But, if you’re really not convinced that that is disgusting, then feel free to simply stop the conversation and leave with the agreement to disagree.

You’re making a lot of assumptions about Rarity’s and Celestia’s characters. Celestia is not Twilight’s mother, she’s her teacher. And from the way we see Twilight writing a letter to Celestia instead of just going to her to mention NMM, it’s clear that Celestia has other concerns. She is the sole rule of the nation at this point, after all.

Likewise Rarity, while certainly a part of his life, does not control it. She takes pains to keep him at a distance, not even allowing him to say he loves her.

I said that it implicated child grooming, not that that would specifically be the case. Besides, whether or not it can be counted as child grooming, it’s still very icky to watch someone who’s probably around 9 years old grow up to be either twice that amount or more. Rarity has had multiple decisions in how Spike grew up, and therefore waiting for him to be around age- which, once again, saying or acting like you were waiting for someone to be in a relationship with you is icky even in a situation with two people/ponies/whatever of the same age group- is not something you should encourage.

Also, that analogy is not a good connection to make. The difference between Celestia and Luna being shipped with adults is that they’re usually not directly involved with those ponies’ lives. If we were arguing about Sparity and Twilestia, then yes, Celestia’s direct involvement with Twilight’s life makes it a gross situation. But we aren’t doing that. Celestia and Luna are not obligated to interact with every subject, and the ponies most would ship them with are not ponies who either Celestia or Luna had direct involvement with. Childhood-wise, anyway. The only things I can think of that are common enough ships are Twilestia and LunaPip, both of which also have bad implications, but otherwise, ships like PinkieLestia or even TwiLuna, are not bound to those implications, due to none of them having met when one was a child and the other was an adult. Plus, there’s also the fact that Luna has been banished for 1000 years, so aside from the few foal x Luna ships, she isn’t really relevant.

Yes, I will admit that saying it’s impossible was an exaggeration, but that doesn’t mean the ship is free of the various reasons why it’s a disgusting one.

Child grooming is a very specific act. It’s not something you do by being someone’s friend, or giving them an occasional kiss on the cheek in appreciation. You’re very purposefully training them on how to be your sexual partner, and it usually doesn’t involve waiting around until they are of age.

That was why I kept mentioning a solid decade. If Spike is 15 and Rarity is around 21-23, that’s a problem, but not nearly so much at 25 and 31-33 respectively. Saying nothing can ever happen is just silly. It’d be like saying Celestia and Luna can never ever take a partner because they clearly are grooming entire generations of ponies with their every action.

I could understand if this image had nothing to do with Spike, but he’s literally in the image, which leads to discussion about sparity, and Spike’s age, and all the rest. And as you can see, the discussion petered out a while back. So… pointless bitchy comment is pointless.

Sorry to the person under me for continuing, but here’s the thing: Spike is said to just now be an adolescent, so, a teenager. Rarity is in an age group that can legally drink (Super Squeezy 6000, the cider is alcoholic). So no romance can really happen between them in the current timeline. And due to the troubling implications (child grooming, the fact that Rarity would’ve watched him grow up, the ugly "I was waiting for you" thing that’s awful in almost any romantic setting, especially one between someone who watched the other grow up, and probably more I’m not thinking of), there is no way Sparity can exist without being disgusting. But, whatever,that’s what filtering’s for.

Oof, guess Spike knows different ways to burn things.

@garcia
That is true but that doesn’t mean you get to roast her like that

If anything, Twilight was asking for that roast XD

Spike didn’t get older suddenly when she hatched him, he got bigger. So if Twilight is 6-7-9 years old, they are 6-7-9 years old apart, because that’s how time works. What you mean is that dragons mature at a different rate, and you’re correct.

Spike just finally hit Young Dragon and grew his wings as of season 8. He’s experienced growth before, but not actual age. And how do we know that?

Twilight Sparkle: An age spell? But… how could you do an age spell? That’s only for the highest level unicorns!

Twilight was experiencing a magic surge. She wasn’t randomly casting spells it would have taken a higher level unicorn to cast, those were basic but powerful transformations.

So yeah, Spike can get bigger via magic or growth, but he still ages at the same rate everyone else does. Short of being taken on the Tardus for a decade long adventure, he’s just gonna have to wait it out one birthday at a time like the rest.

To clarify for those below: Fluttershy is most likely the oldest(back in the cutie mark chronicles flash back she looked older than the rest of the group, or at least taller/thinner, but i’m going to assume she was older); spike is most likely 3 or 4 years behind twilight, maybe even 2 years behind(mainly due to the fact that when he was hatched she grew him up to an adult and then back, it’s not hard to assume that he might not have been fully reverted to age 1, plus she wasn’t that old when she hatched him, maybe 6,7 or at oldest estimate 9), beyond that dragons age differently(slower than ponies or at least they lack signs of true growth in age if their like spike)

It’s a lot less squicky once both are safely past 18. It’s fine for a kid or even a young teen to crush on an adult. Not fine for them to respond in any meaningful way. She can at best smile at him, kiss him on the cheek. And the thing is, I firmly believe Spike is fine with this. It’s his fans that want more.

Of course it’s possible. Like I said, give them both a decade so. Rarity could honestly use a little time herself to mature. Right now she’s caught up in career, in a decade she’ll be ready to have the shops managed for her while she works on designing in the Boutique. By then Spike should properly be in dragon puberty whereas now he’s just barely gotten his wings.

I always figured that Twilight was much younger then that. Though Applejack says that she was just a little younger then Applebloom when she got her cutie mark and I figured that the cmc were about 8-10ish then and they’re about 13ish when they got there marks so I guess that works out.
Though Spike is a dragon and from what we’ve seen they grow physically and mentally at a different rate to ponies. Spike its about on the same mental age as ember despite her being very differnet.
I still say this ship can work.

@darknessRising24
Well, given that Twilight hatched him, and she’s around the same age as Rarity, Spike’s age is Twilight’s age minus what age she was when she got her cutiemark. Given that most cutiemarks are not obtained at age zero, Spike’s going to be around 8-10 years younger than Twilight, plus or minus 1-2 years if Rarity is older or younger than Twilight.

So it’s a safe assumption that Spike isn’t close to her age. But give both of them a decade and it won’t matter so much.
