@HumanGhosts I was in college in '83. Cartoon fandoms would be understandable, as there were some pretty novel and creative ones being made at the time. My Little Pony, though, was not one of them. Bronies would've been incomprehensible back then.
As for our retro view of the '80s, well, every generation is confused by what the next generation considers "nostalgia". I grew up hating disco, but now I enjoy it, go figure.
I wonder what pony fans in actual 1983 would have said if they'd been able to see this, not just for our futuristic space age ponies but for our retro view of the 80s.
The original special, "Rescue from Midnight Castle", actually had some older fans at its time.
