They confused HADUKEN(Fireball) with Shoryuken(Dragon Punch).

She produces a Hadoken and banishes Discord physical body from their dimension (maybe it was with Señor Huevos), ends up giving it back (nobody comments about this? Glim Glam brought his physical form back just like this [snaps fingers]), apologizing to him, Discord gets a [short-lived] job on Friendship School. Only in Equestria.

If you remember Sombra’s episodes, he was able to escape whatever prison he was(shown in-story as some kind of glacier) because or more easily because he was also turned into a shadow.
 
If the banishment spell extended to non-corporeal bodies, Cadance would not have needed a shield.
