You mean that Equestria is already surrounded by this huge creature. And by the huge creature, you mean the Storm King?
Well, I don’t think the ponies captured by the Storm King that were caged could fit thorough these bars.
Well, in “Resistance Rising”, from the official Gameloft app, the CMC managed to escape Canterlot after the Mane Six left Equestria during the Storm King’s reign, form a a local resistance to stop the Storm King’s foot soldiers from taking over Ponyville but failed, and then they’re captured, or imprisoned, or caged, by the Storm King and his troops taking them back to Canterlot.
I guess that really happened during the events of the movie. I mean think back in “Resistance Rising” from the Gameloft app and you’ll find out the answer.
I’m not saying they’re not up to the task, I’m saying they never get the opportunity. The S6 finale, in particular, feels like the writers pushed them aside so someone else could have the spotlight. (Not saying the episode wasn’t good, but the CMC deserved a bigger role in it.)

They’d almost have to, those bars look like they might be big enough for an adult pony to slip between, never mind a filly.

The CMC never get to do anything about actual bad guys. This is actually fairly dignified compared to them getting locked in a broom closet so the Student Six could handle Cozy Glow on their own. I really hope Season 9 lets them be the heroes at some point, they certainly deserve it.
If the cages are anything like the one Twilight’s in, they might have magical properties to them.

Canterlot is already surround by this huge creature, their family and friends maybe manage to escape to Ponyville, their hometown Ponyville also been invade, and Apple bloom must be separated by Granny smith and Big mac during all the chaos/panicking that happening at the start of invasion.

I know the potential of those little cute destroyers, but I still don’t know what they would do if they have a whole troop of bad guys watching them, I think they would just go back to the cage or something worse for their “breakout”…
