the first one should be more 1931-1937 than 1868-1937 as Japan between 1868-1931 was kinda like the last one with Japan opening up to rest of the world and everyone in the western world going crazy for things Japanese which you can see in the artwork of the French Impressionists and the plays of Gilbert and Sullivan and the Japanese themselves going crazy for things western like fashion, industry and architecture and while forming a western style government and armed forces at the same time
 
but then again you can see the first one (the 1868-1937 one) with how China and Russia mostly saw Japan during that time and then the 1937- 1945 one with how Russia and China saw Japan during the Sino-Japanese War, the Boxer Rebellion and the Russo-Japanese War

Japan is an amazing country. I’m really sad for all they’ve been through in history. At least their current state is amazing.
