It is common for Ravenclaw to be rife with political jockeying, stealing of/taking credit for the ideas/theories/ work/achievements of others to gain prestige, as well as constant rivalries which impedes progress. Ironicly, there is a story about how Ravenclaw tried to claim a legendary Hufflepuff wizard was from Ravenclaw.


 
I was really disappointed when I heard Ravenclaw is like this, because I like what Ravenclaw is supposed to represent, that being intelligence, wisdom, wit and learning. If it was any of those things the house wouldn't be the way it was. It's for these reasons I considered Slytherin as an alternative.


 
Having to answer a vague riddle in order to get into the dormitory is really backwards and stupid as well. Riddles have never been a good way to show how intelligencet of witty someone is, as a riddle might only make sense in the mind of it's creator.
