As far as being the main speaking character, the focus of the episode, etc. Applejack in particular suffers from this, as she often works best when she has a lot of other characters to act off of and interact with. One can blame the writers, but a number of episodes focused on her tend to be on average thought of as lower quality (or at least that has been my impression based on reactions to episodes like Applejack’s Day Off).

Its also that a lot of the ponies/characters just seem to have a bit more trouble carrying an episode all on their own compared to Rarity (who in no small part due to her voice actress is fabulous enough to be entertaining on her own pretty easily).

Ilove that Rarity is the only pony receiving specials and songs only for herself (besides Shim Shim); that really proves who is the superior horse.

You know you’re too much into sci-fi B movies when you imagine Rarara shouting “HARRY!”, getting 100 ft. tall and rampaging around just after this scene on Equestrian International Pictures’ I Was A Teenage Kaiju.
 
Directed by Herb Strock, of course.

So there’s more than one connection between the EQG world and the Pony world.

Given the short’s in polish:
 
The girls wanted to raise money for charity by doing a dance routine. Of course Rarity saw this as a way to show off fashion, but her CHS friends were generally all klutz and ruining her clothes, while the Crystal Prep girls were all in sync and had great fashion, so Rarity lost it.
 
However, there’s probably a lot more subtly that visuals can’t completely get that I’m missing.

And thats how rarity became a punch line for fat jokes everywhere
