Well, I’m guessing most Americans and Canadians are Christian in some way so they went with something recognisable for them. But most of the time, unless it’s essential to the plot, most cartoons don’t portray characters having a specific religion.

Huh, so they do acknowledge the concept of death in the show. Probably an in-show, non real life religion. Like a generic portrayal of a priest giving funeral rites.

Normally in western cartoons, they don’t depict religion unless it’s the main focal point which usually makes it a religious cartoon, the types you’d show in Catechism classes. But no, not even in a kids show like MLP(admit it) would they depict real life religion.

Does Equestria/Ponyville have bestiality laws?  
Also, have they shown any form of Christianity in the show?

Hah, jokes on you! Fluttershy is a pony therefore an animal, too! Sure she talks and thinks but she is one nevertheless.
