In any case, let’s come up with a name: my suggestion would be Meredith S. Gernsbacher; first name’s a pun referencing Patton’s current wife, surname sounds like ‘gun’ but with the twist of being named after Hugo Gernsback, and the middle initial makes a reference to the anime Mobile Suit Gundam.

I’m not above taking that movie and ponifying it. I don’t care much about the movie references in MLP: FiM and prefer ponies who aren’t inserted into an episode for the purpose of referencing a movie or another TV show (unless we go with the theory that Equestria mirrors Earth to some extent, which I’m carrying a little, and MLP: FiM itself has dabbled with alternate realities and with the concept of fiction), but there’s still story potential, as I said below.  
It’s possible I’ll make something of it one day.

Who says it can’t be “a filly who actually lives in Equestria”? That’s a story prompt right there - and you could take inspiration from The Journey of Natty Gann, just reworked for Equestria.

I knew it!!!!! As soon as I saw the filly with her hat and the dog next to her, I KNEW this was a Journey of Natty Gann reference! I have not seen this movie in over 30 years but I remember when it was new and if memory serves me right it was shown on the Disney Channel, back when Disney Channel was worth watching.
