It's not really the controversy. The problem is that the show is intended to sell toys, and certain countries/regions won't broadcast stuff containing homosexuality, which would mean less advertising.

To be honest this reminds me of the korra did it argument although this is not as stupid but it still doesn't make me think that the show can and it going to do it. I get that the episode was trying to imply that they were couple . It makes me feel that at least some of the writer's want them to be a couple but the higher ups won't let them do any more than hinting because they don't want to deal with the controversy
