Discord is a main character. He’s the main deuteragonist, which makes him a main character. He’s the character who’s closest to the Mane 6. He’s pretty much one of them.

And I’m explaining you that they also count Discord and Starlight due to them being main characters. Everyone of mane6 also have 1 or two episodes dedicated to them each season, just because in some of them they appear in the background or as part of the group doesn’t mean they are the only main characters.
But Discord has never had more episode appearances with speaking roles than you can count on one hand per season, even if you’re counting season premieres or finales as separate episodes (or count Best Gift Ever as two episode appearances in S8), whereas with Starlight? You have to use two hands with every season from 6 up to 9 (which isn’t done yet, but maybe you will end up being able to use one hand), even if you count two-parters as one episode.
Am I saying Discord’s an unimportant character? No, because he is important, but he’s never appeared frequently enough to justify labeling him as a “main character,” in my opinion.
I think any statements about romance being off the table were for the Mane Six and Spike, in particular, with anyone else being fair game, like with Big Mac.

Discord is part of the main group. This is why he was the one with Mane6 and Spike in Best Gift Ever or S9 Premiere unlike Starlight. Not to mention he is the only one beside mane6,Spike and CMC to have reccuring episodes since S2.
Eh, those two are more debatable on the main character part, and whether such a rule applies to them, especially Discord. Starlight borders on a main character, if she’s considered a supporting character instead of a main one (those arguments were dumb), while Discord is firmly in the “recurring character” category.
That being said, I’m over 90% sure they won’t get shipped, for as little as my opinion probably means.
Theoretically, StarBurst could still happen, but while I don’t have anything against the ship, I personally hope they have her stay single, leave it up to interpretation.
Neither Dislestia nor Fluttercord are likely to become canon, though I’d note I dislike neither of them.

Big Jim said that Hasbro only allowed for minor characters to become romantic. Which is why they were free to pick Maud or Big Mac. I guess Starlight and Discord are also considered main characters because they could ship dislestia and StarlightxSunburst any season they wanted it and yet they still didn’t.
Sad but true, while there have been some romance in the show, but all the romantic scenarios happen to minor or less recurring characters. The show will probably end with none of the main characters being in a relationship.
Sadly i doubt Cheesepie would become canon. I feel the loss, since it does make sense but Hasbro doesn’t like mane6 shipped with anyone. Same thing with FlutterCord. They will just make a group hug with all main characters without canonising anything. The only chance is if they ever return to G4 and with a time skip.

It’s definitely due to the introduction of the school. The Young Six’s episodes were mostly good, in my opinion, but the school definitely messed everything up.

I think part of that bad episodes on both season are because the inclusion of the student six imo.
They usually have very predictable episodes which aren’t really relevant to the main plot of the final episodes.

I’ve always had hits and misses in every season too, it’s just that the ratio of misses to hits rose dramatically when Season 8 started.

I’m kind of struggling to decide whether Season 8 or Season 9 is worse. I’m considering Season 9, because Season 8 had more good episodes, but I’m also considering Season 8, because its bad episodes were MUCH worse than Season 9’s.

Fair point but you were replying to someone who sounded like they were complaining because their headcanons didn’t happen. It was kind of an easy mistake for me to make.
I also don’t think the show is being ruined. In fact, I’m loving this season a lot more compared to Season 8.

I don’t think that’s going to happen in this show. The show is TV-Y and is played early in the morning in most places (even on preschool networks). If the show was TV-Y7, TV-G, or TV-PG, I could easily see something like that happening. But not on a show like this.

The definition of the word is “Believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.” I’m with @AC97 on this.
Not only is a show not obliged to follow fans headcanons but even if they did, there would still be people complaining about “fanservice” if that happened. Not to mention given how big this fandom is and how many people have different opinions and headcanons (that often even clash with each other), not everyone is going to be pleased with seeing some popular headcanons be confirmed. It’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation where you can’t please everybody.
For example, of the choices here, the only ones I really want are 6 (an epic fight with the League of Villains) and 14 (Scorpan to make an appearance).
With 1 I’d be okay if Scootaloo being able to fly but I also wouldn’t mind if she can’t either due to being disabled. With 2, while I like the idea of Rainbow Dash adopting Scootaloo, I’m perfectly content with Scootaloo living happily with her aunts.
With three and four, I actually do ship CheesePie and Sparity but I don’t want ships with the Mane 6 to be canon in the show. I just want that to be left to fanmade content. Even though I like the ships in fan content, I’d honestly be rather disappointed if the show made either of them canon. I liked Lauren Faust’s original idea to keep romance away from the Mane 6.
I do not want the Pony of Shadows to return and I don’t want Chrysalis killed off. And as for the other options, I’m really indifferent on if they happen or not.
So if I can disagree with this person this much, I wouldn’t be surprised if other people did too. It’s inevitable. Also, the makers of the show also have pressures from the higher-ups too (for example, the Student 6 was literally forced onto them by the higher-ups). There’s really only so much they can do in one season while trying to please them and please us. I understand that they can’t do everything that I want to see (or that other people want to see).
