People use the Simpsons comparison because its the longest running show. And to act like proper cartoon fans, they use it as a punching bag when they really want to see the cartoon they like go on longer but not to the degree of the Simpsons.

I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen FiM Twilight look like movie Twilight.

The Simpsons comparison makes no sense. Even if you don’t focus on the same characters, Equestria is an entire world where there would always be stories to tell. There’s no reason to start over with an entirely different backstory and setting for another show.

Because then you become the Simpsons or Family Guy.

I’m actually wholeheartedly in agreement with you there about The Simpsons - I too watched it from the mid-90s (when it first started airing on terrestrial TV in the UK), up until 2008 (by which point it was at something like season 15), but by then my interest in it was already waning…I kept watching it with increasing sporadicness for the next several years, (and went to see The Simpsons Movie at the cinema), but completely lost interest by about season 23/24.
 
I believe it’s now on season 30??

Well, King Solomon was right.

Honestly could the show have lasted another season or 2 with it still being at least decent (if not good)? Sure but some times for a show ending on a high note is better than taking that gamble.

On the whole, they don’t. For every simpsons or spongebob that ends up a shambling yellow corpse, there’s a hundred pitches with two good jokes that used them in the first minute.

Funny thing: I consider myself a Simpsons fan, up until the early 2000s. Then my fandom stops entirely. I don’t even watch the new episodes now. I don’t care. It’s all the same crap, and “featuring” celebrities I’ve never heard of getting cheap cameos. Never before have I wanted a show to be put out of its misery this badly.

It’s better than something being dragged on far past the point where it should’ve ended, and then it degrades into garbage(see: Simpsons). It’s better this way.
