Yeah but this is only a meta explanation by audience. If what you said was pointed out by the characters i could at least give writers a credit that it was intentional and a valid message. But lets be honest. This writer didn’t know Twilight is being a hypocrite and story editors forgot those episodes too. This already happened this season several times. Dash forgot she was teaching FLuttershy how to cheer in early seasons. Fluttershy forgots in She’s All Yak that “is great to be yourself” is what she was teaching Discord but coudn’t do anything to say the same to Yona. In all of these instances you could say that characters are just flawed but in reality this seasons is just ridden with characters regression and ignorance. And the fact that Twilight is suppose to be an example of perfection in order to take Equestria from Princesses is the most annoying thing now.

Again i woudn’t care if she was just a normal Librarian being a hypocrite. But as a ruler and personifiction of friendship i just woudn’t trust her with all this power and titles. She seems like a petty hypocrite who can’t handle pressures and easily snaps to do something stupid and endanger entire country
It was easier for Twilight to see that Applejack and RD were getting too competitive when Twi was looking on from the outside. The trivia contest was something she was invested in, and from that perspective she was too close to the issue to notice.

It wasn’t really a relapse, though. Twilight Sparkle’s previous “twilynanas” episodes (Lesson Zero, It’s About Time, Point of No Return) were about how her obsessiveness could harm herself. This episode was about how it could harm another pony.
