Really stung due to Luna was pretty popular.
Especially with how she quickly gained attention from just her small appearance alone in the first season premiere.
And yet it didn’t deter the writers from screwing her over during crisis stuff..
Like in the movie.

@CronoM
And the fact for Luna, she was working hard to try to gain the love from the ponies.
But its awkward due to she was back for a few years until apparently she has to give up all of that.
The whole retirement crap is not a good sendoff for Luna’s character honestly..
CronoM

I think the writers forget any and all the character development Twilight would need to stop being a massive hyperdependent tool and have the confidence and charisma to either A) Realistically rule or B) Choose her own path independent of Celestia’s overbearing wishes.

Cause that certainly didn’t happen in the show XD

Its hurts so much for Luna’s case due to her track record looks worse compared to Celestia’s due to losing a 1000 years.
So since her return from the moon, she kept getting sidelined or taken out when some bad guy attacks.
That’s just one of the problems of Luna retiring, she’s ending her rule with such a bad track record on her image.
Luna did not deserved to be screwed over for the sake of Twilight “chosen one” Sparkle there.

Honestly the crown looks more like just Celestia’s crown slightly changed up rather than it being combination of her’s and Luna’s crown. Like it doesn’t look there’s much of Luna’s crown in the fusion there.
Just felt like Luna is still in Celestia’s shadow there.

What’s more iffy is how apparently the crown thing causes Luna and Celestia to give their ability of the sun and moon to Twilight according to Jim, despite the whole raising the sun/moon thing is part of their freaking Cutie Marks.
Luna didn’t get to enjoy her destiny of raising the moon for much long either.

You’re not the only one who doesn’t like it but no reason to scream at us. Just do it like me and use season 8 as your canon ending.

My canon ending is, that they sent Cozy to a school for problem children. At some point, she escaped and the legion of doom formed (Tirek, Cozy and Chrysalis. but no Sombra). Some stuff of s9 did happen (like Frenemies or Celestia’s and Luna’s vacation) in a similar way. However, unlike the s9 final, the legion of doom started to go less and less evil so that, after a last battle with the heroes, the princesses will allow them to live their lives (maybe with the help of the Changelings or other former villains).

Celestia and Luna won’t retire and Twilight won’t give up her school after 2 years. However, with some help from Twilight and maybe the pillars, Celestia and Luna are finally able to have at least a few free days every year and can stop with a life that’s “all work and no fun”.

Or, you could easily make the interpretation that it was never about actual morals on his part.

It’s about a statue not being as fun as someone he’s doing whatever to, just as a corpse isn’t as fun as someone living (why he didn’t murder the Mane Six). In addition, he was showing anger that it happened to him personally.

With the three he was dealing with, do you think he cared whatsoever about them continuing to be fun and chaotic, by that point?

So as far as I’m concerned, it contradicts nothing, and it wouldn’t be the first time his viewpoints notably shifted anyway.

He went from “what fun is there in making sense” in his debut to “because you and I don’t make sense to anypony else,” as if that was a bad thing, in Discordant Harmony.

Amen.

Because on the whole stone situation, they turned a freaking filly, aka Cozy Glow, into that situation with the other two. I mean what gives writers of MLP! They made it clear back in Discord’s debut in Season 2 in that he clearly said: “At least I don’t turn ponies into stone.” and yet they completely forgot his statement on that! SHEESH!

Yep
Not to mention that Twilight’s whole evolution during the show (learning, sharing and later teaching about the magic of friendship) had lead to founding the friendship school to teach everycreature about the magic of friendship.

That and the whole “turning the villains to stone“ crap doesn’t fir with the core message of FiM about friendship and forgiveness. Seriously, they hinted a reformation only to petrify the legion of fail.
Not to mention Discord being the main antagonist of the last season for torturing the villains

I agree with you. Especially Luna’s retirement. How long has she been back: 9 years or 12?
If anypony deserves a vacation then Celestia after ruling 1000 years

Amen. I’m glad that there are still sane people in the world. Also, opinion supported by factual material and at least some argumentation (unlike “awww I liek it lol” or “fuuuu, I hate it!”) doesn’t need so much excuses. Stand your ground proudly, dammit.

I’m convinced that a true fan can enjoy something he likes but is also able to admit when something is bad. People often mistaken that for hating instead of constructive criticism.
Sadly many people I talked to are either the “awww I liek it lol” or “fuuuu, I hate it!” type of people.

I’m neither trying to make the show bad
You can’t. That’s a task for another certain group of people. And even they cannot make the show worse anymore, because it ended (e.g not suffering anymore). T_T

Are you talking about Hasbro and the writers?
Well, there still will be a season 10 (and maybe more) in comic form.

1000 years of ruling with godlike power but she still is a kind and understanding pony with a heart of gold.
In my humble opinion, one cannot get spoiled by godlike power, if one is the goddess. It’s just comes naturally.

That’s true. Both, Luna and Celestia already had alicorn magic from the day of their birth. It’s kind of canon, because all three pony tribes wanted them to rule the newly founded Equestria because they had been alicorns. During that time, they didn’t even have cutie marks (from the “The Journal of the Two Sisters”).
So it makes sense that they (well, at least Celestia) never went crazy because of having too much magical power.

(This is my opinion. I’m neither trying to make the show bad; I love it, nor am I saying that you shouldn’t watch season 9. So please don’t start a hate war because WE ALL ARE PART OF THE FANDOM and we should RESPECT EATH OTHER)

Finally someone who has the same opinion as i. Everyone else just complained when I said that season 9’s plot was stupid regarding on how they dealt with Celestia, Luna, Twilight and even the villains.

Don’t get me wrong, Twilight is awesome and all, but from season 1 to 7, her whole journey was about learning and sharing friendship, not ruling. So in season 8, founding a school for teaching friendship to ponies and non-ponies was the perfect conclusion.
IF they always wanted Twilight to become a ruler, then they should have started that plot at least one season earlier instead of letting Celestia saying something like “We’re retiring next Tuesday, good luck with ruling the kingdom, lol.”

Yes, I know that Lauren Faust wanted to turn Twi into the ruler at the end, but on the other hand she never wanted her to become an alicorn (from what I remember). So it seems as if the writers thought that, for the last season, they’ll just go with stereotypes by turning the main protagonist into a Mary Sue, who’s the ruler of the world (let’s face it, with god-like power of both princesses and the political/ideological influence on the younger generations of at least 5 other nations, Equestria now is the most powerful kingdom of the world of G4).

S9 showed that Twilight still goes into crazy mode, even after at least 9 years with 6 years being a princess. I would trust her to be a hero, even a supporting ruler, but not as a sole ruler. Especially without her friends or the princesses helping her to calm down, because I’m sure she would try to do things on her own as a ruler.

About the princesses: In the opener Celestia said something like “Equestria was never as peaceful as now”, 2 years after an invasion of the Storm King + 2 years the return of the Pony of Shadows + maybe 1 year or less after a young filly almost took over Equestria by erasing all magic. Let’s count all the world ending villains we had in 9 years (if one season equals one year. I’m 100% sure that this isn’t the case)

Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chysalis 1.0, Sombra, 1.0, Trixie (with the alicorn amulet), Tirek + Discord, Starlight (two times in a row), Tantabus, Chrysalis 2.0, Pony of Shadows, Storm King + his army and Cozy Glow 1.0 (Sombra 2.0 and Legion of Doom came after Celestia’s statement)

So we have at least 13 potential “end of Equestria” moments in 9 years (I counted Trixie, because we never knew how powerful and evil she was while wearing the alicorn amulet).
So we have between 1 and 2 crises every year, while Celestia was ruling 1.000 years on her own. Sorry, but either all villains had been on vacation for 1000 years so that Celestia had been busy being lazy or Celestia had defended Equestria for 1000 years against tons of villains and invasions while being able to create a blooming kingdom that’s more or less the technologic and ideological most evolved nation of the knows world of G4.

If anything, then Celestia should be allowed to retire because she made an awesome job without abusing her power or turning crazy. 1000 years of ruling with godlike power but she still is a kind and understanding pony with a heart of gold.

Same with the Legion of Doom: All of G4 was about friendship and forgiving the bad guys. So just turning them to stone at the end was a bad decision. Big Jim even said that they never wanted them to be reformed. Sorry, bat that’s now what FiM taught us for 7 seasons and one movie.
It’s funny how the writers started to punish the villains after the movie: Sending a young filly to hell and later turning her to stone. We all know that you’re still able to think while you’re petrified (Discord told us about it). Yes, we had Tirek, Sombra and the Storm King, but two of them got killed by accident and the third was in prison. Chrysalis got a second chance but wasted it.

So, to finish this wall of text (sorry for that): Twilight should have become at most a third ruler until she’s too old. That way she could have helped Celestia and Luna and they would have been able to go on vacation more often than once every 1000 years.
Writing of the princesses this way was a bad idea and to me season 9 is not canon to my version of Equestria. Once more, this only is my opinion, so please don’t start a hate war
