As I pointed out, there are hints that Cheerilee and Big Mac had a thing in the past. Him checking her out goes with a hinted past relationship. As for the Ponytones - the fact that she didn’t realize it wasn’t Big Mac tells us how close those two actually are.
 
And what about Marble’s reaction? She had heartbreak. There end of story. She gets over it. End of part 2. We know she gets over it or deals with it or whatever because she spends the rest of the holiday acting normal. We don’t need anything else.

They also had Big Mac checking out Cheerilee in the Where The Apple Lies flashback. I think that was intended as a foreshadowing of their future relationship.
 
And how about Marble’s reaction in the Best Gift Ever special?

The Ponytones was the only actual “hint” after that and that was a long time ago. Not to mention, it wasn’t even Big Mac’s actual voice….

Maybe they moved one in the time between that. Those moments were so far between I forgot about them. Yes they failed to give a proper explanation why Mac wanted Sugar Belle, but that’s the only strike against it.
 
Question: where’s Sugar Belle’s family in this?

As I said in my wish list I posted awhile ago, that excuse might have cut it if not for all the subsequent episodes showing Big Mac and Cheerilee together without the love potion.

Did you even watch the episodes? In the very first episode where the established SugarMac, they flat out said that him and Cheerilee? Not a thing. Marble? They met one episode. They spent only a couple of days together.
 
Meanwhile, the Love Potion episode flat out established that they weren’t a thing and they even messed with the CMC for the notion at the end. It also established that they were friends and might have had history once but are over it.
 
So for all of your posturing here, Big Mac and Cheerilee were established as platonic friends that did like to hang out occasionally and Marble was a non-entity outside of a single episode. I think you got your headcanons and fanons mixed up with what was actually established from the start.

Big Macintosh is a background character. Hell, much of his dialog in the entire show you could probably fit on a business card. When a character’s screen time is relegated to the occasional starring or co-starring role and most other times quick background cameos, every little thing said character has done is easier to keep track off. Most if not all the fans on this site can recall all his moments with Cheerilee or Marble. Did the writers even watch any of the old episodes? Did the writers and animators have no idea what the other was doing? Did no one cross reference the scripts with the storyboards and say “Hey wait! What about this scene from that episode or that scene from this episode? Don’t you think we should address it?”

Where the Apple Lies was 3 seasons ago, and only showed Big Mac glancing at an older mare who happened to be Cheerilee. They may not have even known each other.
 
I mean, I shipped Cheerimac back in the day and still have feelings for it but this is a strange new level of denial.
