Also at this point the writers still weren’t sure what they wanted to do with the relationship. This was all settled later on.

Cheerilee and Big Mac established the episode of the Love Potion that they were friends for a while. The only one that’s really a problem was the Ponytones episode.

Tell that to whoever kept putting Cheerilee and Big Mac together in background shots. I still have no idea what was up with that. As for Marble, she may not have needed closure, but the writers did wrong by not giving it to her.

Mac and Sugar’s relationship has been a contentious thing since it was introduced, the drama is in part on how the writers handled them, nothing to be done about it but try and keep the conversations from getting hostile.

Cheerilee was frigging closed the very same episode he got with Sugar Belle. They flat out say that Cheerilee is not who he wants from the start. Marble Pie learned and burned, that’s all they needed for that.

Not the last two, unfortunately. I think I understand where they’re coming from though. I could feel the winds of change coming back in season 6 when we’d lost the majority of the veteran writers and the guys who had initially replaced them would soon leave themselves. The show started to focus more on newer characters it seemed, and when they were tapped it made more new ones meanwhile it felt like the original cast was starting to stagnate in terms of growth. These last two seasons it’s felt more like the last crop of writers didn’t especially care for the writing that proceeded their own and when they did pay attention to it, it’s felt more like they took away from it instead of adding to it. It’s most certainly been a very depressing final two years for a good swath of the fandom, I must say.

They got progressively worse by the year, I trust you’ll agree on that at least? Hell, the fucking fan theory that Big Mac and Applejack conceived Apple Bloom through incest and secretly raised her as their sister has more supporting evidence and credence than Big Mac’s relationship with Sugar Belle. Never mind the past relationship we actually saw develop in the earlier seasons!
