Discord’s likely only been concious for so long because he’s an immensely powerful being. He’s probably been chipping away at the spell since he was first petrified, but for the average pony - uh, changeling, centaur, and pony - it likely just lets them slumber away until someone unseals them. A whole 1000 years could pass by in the blink of an eye for them, so don’t worry too much. =p
@cheezedoodle
Not really given Discord implied he was totally aware during the whole time in a previous episode. That kind of stuff would drive most to just shut down mentally.
@Background Pony #94E0
Or maybe he knew the whole time and was giving them a ‘final test’. Would the villains stay friends or would they backstab each other in the end?
…but I’m just guessing based on the leaks, I haven’t actually watched the final episodes.
I can see Discord plan. “I will use them to test Twilight and make her and Mane6 more confident as heroes. And i will try to make the villains become friends in the meantime, possibly reforming them. If not, i will just turn them to stone, hibernating them so they dont waste their lifespan in Tartarus”
It was just dumb that he really didn’t see it coming that they would reach the bell, actually fool him in Summer Setback episode and still manage to set an ambush without him suspecting anything. He should have been able to sense the bell. It was really writing that wasn’t thought through.
Okay maybe in the future if Daybreaker comes to reality they should banish or make her stone right away no questions. You have no right to be broken in Twilight’s Equestria!
@shitsandgiggles
Unless it keeps you conscious (the only known spell shuts down your consciousness by putting you to sleep) then no, it’s not that bad.
@Wild Stallions
Gosh for the last time y’all, petrification isn’t death. How MANY times have characters been petrified in this show and come back just fine? Discord, Twilight, Mudbriar? Surely you remember these haha. It may be severe as a punishment, but it is not a death penalty.
@FearDiamond
Good points. Also, Cozy and Tirek did look like they were terrified of being petrified, so there may have still been a spark of hope for them, but Chrysalis pretty much screwed them over when she made it clear she wouldn’t stop until she won and got revenge and sealed their fate because of her own black heart.
Chrysalis had plenty. I don’t really care about her fate. You can legitimately say she made her choice.
Cozy had one chance, fewer than all the other villains that the show did reform besides Sunset.
Tirek had literally none at all, unless you count not listening to Scorpan, then he, too, only had one.
As for whether they would ever reform?
We don’t know enough about Tirek to even guess; we know he was at least protective of his grandmother and saved that bird that was hit by the defensive fan and seemed concerned for it. There was a little bit there (though not much) to suggest that he wasn’t completely self-interested and had some amount good in him that could have been tapped with enough effort, but they literally never tried.
Chyrsalis seems too far gone and absolutely loathed everyone and everything who could try to make her see reason, she had more vendettas than words spoken, with only slight exaggeration, and was pretty far gone in the head, too.
As for Cozy, she is young enough that her behavior and personality are not yet set in stone and could potentially change,even if she currently is on the path to complete sociopathy. Would it have been easy to try to save her from herself? Probably not. But you would think that those in positions of authority would have a duty and obligation to give it a try and far more effort than we see any indication that they ever did.
@FearDiamond
Petrifying Tirek and Chrysalis, I can understand. But a child…
Even children in real life who have committed murder don’t get the death penalty. Even the last juvenile to be executed in history was 17 years old, that’s borderline adulthood.
People angry about this and angry about there being “too many” reformations are probably different.
The latter doesn’t bother me, it is supposed to be what the show about, friendship and forgiveness.
This, petrifying a child, this bothers me greatly.
@FearDiamond
Honestly, how many chances have those three had to try and turn their lives around and accept friendship into them, but let their own dark emotions control their lives? You really think they would ever find redemption?
@Empress Cozy Glow
I think most of us don’t mind it for Tirek or Chrysalis, cause the implication is on some level “They’ll get unfrozed and redeemed later.”
But somehow having Cozy Glow petrified as well makes it feel…more permanent somehow. Like they actually just murdered a child by turning her to stone.
