I don’t like people like this. I have seen way to many people on Twitter argue that because they feel emotionally immature or have interests in what is generally considered kid things etc. that they shouldn’t be held accountable for what they decide to do and should be treated with kids gloves even though they are like in their mid 20s to nearly 30 years old.
 
I think this mentality comes from this idea that adults act a certain way and have this certain level of emotional maturity. However that isn’t really true at all, just because you don’t have those things doesn’t mean you are not an adult that has the experience needed to make your own decisions. Some adults are emotional immature, and they can act and have interest in pretty much whatever they want.
 
Also the episode Growing Up is Hard to Do had both Twilight and Fluttershy identify themselves as adults so this point is moot. You know beyond the fact that they were young adults at the start of the show at their youngest, no younger than 17-20 IMO and that is pushing it. At least a few years have past since then anyway.

I think the issue isn’t age maturity, but emotional maturity.
 
Spike is considered a baby dragon despite being more mature than the CMC (romantic interest, a full time job).
 
With the wide range of lifespans, normal to millennia, basing maturity on personality not biology is the way to work out these discrepancies when they come up in the setting.
 
The Mane 6 may be adults in age, but they were still teenagers emotionally, hence their identical personalities to their teenage human selfs.
 
Discord, who probably can’t even be said to have biology, much less biological age, was immature emotionally, even less than Fluttershy once he reformed. And we still haven’t seen anything to prove their relation is anything more than platonic. If things changed by the finale the two decades at least that passed erases any possibility of Fluttershy being underaged.

Cheerilee is their teacher in Equestria Girls and clearly much older but in Equestria she is the same age range as the Mane Six (being seen as a foal around their age in several flashbacks throughout the years). So the ages are different in that world.

Where is that established? Unless you think that Celestia and Luna have counterparts that are secretly more than a thousand years old in EQG, the age correlation being 1:1 isn’t established fact. Not everything correlates between dimensions exactly, up to and including how old/mature they are.

The thing is, we see teenagers in this show, albeit rarely.
 
In the Saddle Row Review, Rarity’s landlord has a teenage daughter - older than the CMCs but clearly younger than the Mane 6 - who kept pitching terrible ideas to Rarity.
 
Anyway, just a reminder that Sunset - who’s an adult and also a little older than Twilight most likely - went to Earth, enrolled in high school, and briefly dated a high-schooler. Discord’s got nothin’ on that.

They’re adults because they’re called adults.
 
Starlight’s father calls her an adult. He uses the word “adult.” Starlight, in the same episode, refers to herself as a “grown mare.”

so… this the funniest part of the fandom, all people said ‘‘they are adults because they have jobs and house’’ are we really comparing a world of magical ponies with the real world? just look great part of animes and videogames. main characters are usually kids or teenagers living or travelling alone, but I dont see no one saying ‘‘they are adults for that’’
 
they have the same age in both worlds (I mean, why the portals will change your age?) but both societies dont work in the same way. at the end, ponies are animals, can you walk and find your own food? get out!

Fluttershy’s parents are very much alive, and there are no implications of them having been under financial difficulties to the point of forcing her to move out before adulthood.
 
But yes, adolescence as a concept didn’t really exist before the 20th Century, and it still doesn’t in a lot of places.
 
That’s obviously not the case here, so… the burden of proof lies with you saying Pony Fluttershy isn’t an adult.

Why would Zephyr Breeze being a freeloader be a bad thing, if Fluttershy wasn’t an adult? She’s his older sister and has a job, and her own house. If that’s not someone who’d qualify as an adult in your eyes, and you think it doesn’t qualify by society’s standards, then I want to know whatever the hell it is you’re smoking, stat.
 
Fluttershy is arguably the oldest out of the Mane Six, being outright stated to be a year older than Pinkie Pie, and she was the only one of them to have a teenager model in that time period.
 
Unless you think the other five aren’t adults either? Twilight is Spike’s big sister, and she obviously is his guardian, which, y’know, probably wouldn’t be the case if she weren’t an adult.
