Considering that the Chimera was the only non-animal in Tartarus to help out Fluttershy and the rest during the end of Season 8, I do wonder if there is some sort of Good Behaviour thing possibly being in the works and this maybe being part of it.
Pinkie did also thank the ‘Administrators at Tartarus’ for allowing them to put on this trial.

I have no context to go by, but maybe the chimera is cooperating, like Manny Roar with Trixie’s Manticore Mouth Dive?
