Gee it’s like you didn’t even bother reading what I typed nor the reference I told you to check. Twi is widely liked and got mass appeal, this we can all agree. And guess what? That’s exactly because that voting method is designed in such a way that you end up getting a winner who’s none’s favorite, yet is widely appreciated.  
Anonfilly won the seeding round, and yet despite being the favorite pone of lots of voters, she doesn’t have enough approval to make it to the finish in a tournament brackets poll. The fandom is able to pick a pony with more flavor, just not with that kind of poll.

Twilight is unbuttered toast. That’s what gives her the mass appeal and why they put her face on all the merchandise. There’s nothing wrong with that, but you’d think the fandom would be able to find someone with a little more flavor out of nine seasons. Miss /mlp/ is basically just a Facebook poll at this point. But sure, go ahead and repeat the word “wrong” some more. That’s a great argument.

The fact that Sunset Shimmer lost to Princess Cadance, a bland character, shows the overwhelming fault in this.

Yeah I’m talking about something like this more or less. I think the results would have been much more significant if voters had been allowed to pick their champion(s) from the very start, but considering the amount of available candidates, first past the post voting wouldn’t have been optimal either honestly. The Borda method is quite effective for that stuff but same as above quite tricky with that many candidates. It’s quite nerdy too and not really entertaining.  
It’s a pick your poison situation really. There’s no real good way to do it, but the tournament brackets method often yields this sort of result. Winner is liked by a majority, but it’s few people’s first pick.

What do you mean by “direct voting”? The seeding round let you vote for 128 candidates and the votes were tallied, and Anonfilly “won” that. Are you talking about something like this, or something else?

Also if you think these results are in any way surprising, sorry to break it to you but there was almost no chance a non-mane six/mane eight character could have won. Read about the Condorcet method and you’ll quickly understand why it’s shit and never used in any serious vote. Direct voting would have been more efficient and way more likely to yield surprising results.
