The point is…you said ‘thanks for nothing, Hasbro’…but that implies nothing Hasbro ever did was any good, despite the fact that the entire show wouldn’t exist without them. I’m just bringing up the problem in that statement alone, not wanting to argue with you about the treatment of that one specific minor character again. Once was quite enough.

It is. You know when people complain about villains being reformed, not that Lightning Dust qualifies as a villain, it because of how quick the heel-face turn is with little development to explain the change.
 
Discord not only got a full episode dedicated to reforming him but follow up episodes to show that it was a complete change and he was still adjusting. Starlight got a montage showing her turn, plus a season to show a continued transition to being good.
 
Stygian was saved because Twilight took the time to learn how he got possessed by darkness. Sure that too was rushed but we had some time to learn about him during the finale.
 
Everyone else was either rushed to reform and forgotten or just not given a chance to reveal a back story or reason to chance and got turn to stone.

Yeah, Lightning Dust trusted Soarin because he was already a Wonderbolt and no one questioned Lightning’s efforts to follow that his advice until it was too late.
What’s so heart breaking is that if someone had proven that advice false or at least ill advised she could have turned things around. Instead of getting kicked out, though that’s probably the proper response for the military, she could have been punished then made Rainbow Dash’s wing pony for the rest of the training and given a chance to see how to lead without disregarding the well being of others.
Of course that would have been too long an episode but the story could have been continued as a comic or an episode where Lightning reapplies to be a Wonderbolt and Dash is assigned to oversee her training.
 
It would have been a great story that practically writes itself.  
What a waste.

This image’s headcanon: It’s part Soarin’s fault to give her false advise. Yet Soarin got away with that because he just gave her that advice innocently and ignorantly, and Lightning Dust is completely ignorant believing everything he says without information filters.
