Mr. Unusual

JoJo fans: “It’s a JoJo reference!!”
Persona fans: “No, it’s clearly a Persona reference!!”
Me: “Is it so hard to ask for both?”

There is some crossover, but the major differences lay in how much of the occult is public knowledge and how Persona are granted in the realities, the P1/P2 reality has many more people who know about Persona and other occult goings on, and the power of Persona is a gift bestowed upon select individuals, basically granting them the power to summon demons, ala standard SMT games, just without the use of technology developed by that universes version of Stephen Hawking.
That’s not a joke just to clarify.

As for the second reality…
Persona is referred to as “the power to control ones own heart” and are essentially tamed shadows that were extremely powerful, shadows being the suppressed negative emotions and sentiments of any sapient being. A shadow that can become a Persona is usually characterised as having become so powerful, they can maintain a mimicry of the form of the being they are born from.
They can be drawn out in various ways, either in life or death situations as part of the bodies fight or flight response, or artificially through the use of drugs and technology (Persona 3), Accepting the negative aspects of ones personality/feelings and working to overcome them (Persona 4), or releasing them in anger or retribution towards a perceived threat or personal injustice (Persona 5).

Initial studies into the phenomenon had them mislabeled as psychic powers, until a break through by a former CEO of the Kirijio group lead to studies being directed at harnessing their power, and eventually an experiment with the goal of immortality being sabotaged.
If you plan on playing any version of P3, that’s about the gist of the backstory behind Shadows and Persona without getting to much into spoiler territory.

For the most part, Shadows and Persona cannot manifest/be summoned in normal conditions without extreme training, they require reality to be in a more… unstable/malleable state. This is shown in P4 and P5 as essentially granting Persona users access to a hub of their local areas collective unconscious, where thoughts and concepts can take shape more easily, and it’s implied the same is true of the main dungeon in P3.
However, it is possible to summon a Persona outside of these conditions, one just has to have trained extensively in focusing their willpower.

Shadows and Persona are also sorted into groups, usually according to the major Arcana of the thoth tarot deck, these classifications are reflections of their learned skills and how they grow to use them.
For example, Devil arcana shadows and Persona are more likely to have high magic stats, and learn ailment and debuff skills, like poison and slowing their movements, while Chariot arcana Shadows and Persona will be more likely to forgo magic entirely, relying on brute strength skills, with some learning buffs to make them more powerful, or light healing skills to make their use of health draining physical skills less strenuous.

Most Persona users are limited to a single Persona, attuned to a single Arcana. As they grow, and change, their Persona can evolve, usually up to twice.
The Initial Persona is gained through the realisation of purpose, acceptance of flaws as part of oneself, release of a pent up rage against something or someone.
The Awakened Persona is realised through personal growth, and realisation of direction. Setting ones heart on a course that they have charted for themselves.
The Ultimate Persona is realised through a powerful resolve to grow and change, turning ones flaws into strengths in the process and acknowledging why they used to be flaws in the first place.

Some however, are gifted with a power known as the Wildcard, which allows them to use multiple Persona of various Arcana, seemingly without limit. These people tend to be attuned to the Fool Arcana, their Initial Persona is usually much much weaker than others, but it has the most potential for growth, as it can absorb power from the other Persona held within their user.
Some Wildcard users will never see their Initial Persona evolve into an Awakened or Ultimate state, others might only see a single evolution that only appears in the direst of circumstances. Some might have the ability to change the appearance of their Persona at will. The Wildcard power is just that, and each user has a unique ability to go along with it.

It’s kinda hard to get too much into detail without spoiling a lot about each game, as a lot of these facts are figured out by the cast of each game as they go along, and if you plan on playing them at all, I really don’t want to go in to deep as to actual world lore as that could seriously ruin the experience.

okay, second question
Which lore? The original trilogy (Persona 1, P2 Innocent Sin, P2 Eternal Punishment), or the current trilogy (P3, P4, P5)?
They former takes place in a different reality to the latter.

I’m not a Persona player, but I’m still going to try my best to understand it.
Anyone who is more familiar with the series would be a great help.

Too bad you got most the stats wrong. Spike’s persona there is based off Morgana’s Zorro, Zorro specialises in speed and magic, with very few physical skills. multi-target garu and healing spells, with the only physical skills being low accuracy-high crit chance attacks.

Spike’s Lancelot there, would absolutely work with a similar setup, throwing out multi target agi spells while healing and buffing his teammates, with his sole physical skill being either rising slash or deadly fury, to give incentive for his teammates to baton pass and boost their power, and show off how much of a team player he is.

In other words, low strength, high speed and range, with good precision and middling-low durability.
Since it’s an initial Persona, and not Awakened or Ultimate, it does indeed have very good development potential.

okay, he’s not.
Because Applebloom is.
Both Applebloom and Morgana share the same Japanese seiyu, Ikue Otani, known the world over for also being the voice of Pikachu.
If Spike is anyone from Persona, he’d actually be a better fit as Aigis or Teddie and Marie, from P3 and P4 respectively, their character arcs follow a similar path to Spike’s, revolving around finding out where they fit into the world and what their purposes are.
