Discord now causes the drama, now about himself, now he like to see people get into drama, but not about himself, he now regrets it.

I’m kinda a li’l saddened to see a once widely beloved character get so much hateraid lately frankly, it reminds me of the “Twilight is a Sue!” drama from the Season 3 days… (Twilight being another “Once beloved then suddenly hated” character, but at least that died down after awhile. So hopefully the Discord drama does too.)

I admit I kinda have mixed feeling over the controversial “twist” in the finale, I was kinda hoping Groger would be a brand new villain, but I guess then he’d just become another generic doomsday villain, or “villain of the week.” So I suppose I can understand them not going that direction.

Regardless, I still honestly enjoyed the finale, and I bare no grudge against fictional characters, especially sense Discord’s intentions were good, and his plan backfiring on him, as well as him being captured, ect. was enough punishment for him, and ensures he’s never going to try anything too risky like this again, and such. So that kinda gives him closure for the finale.

I didn’t say chaos was evil. Heck, I love it. It has an effect of normalizing people’s behavior. When you see everything going down you see what can be lost, and people having nothing to lose are very, very rare. So most people should feel blessed that chaos showed them what they could’ve lost. That’s why society ending has historically resulted in society rebuilding itself in a different but similar fashion. All these post-apocalyptic movies are no fun anymore though…
My personal finding is that he’s often, rightly, thought to be close to omnipotent. That’s why he makes for a poor ally and it’s one step removed from overpowered, something that is often called Mary Sue.
I like to call being friends with such a being mary sue-by-proxy. He was a great villain.

But chaos is not inherently evil. True, too much chaos would just lead to anarchy, but too much order would make life stale and boring…and basically be a dictatorship. That is what Discord is…that one bit of chaos to contrast the ponies harmonious world.

As for how many people liking or disliking something has any merit, well…a cartoon show like My Little Pony is a form of entertainment, and if the people who watch that cartoon like a character from it, then yes, it is by definition a good character for that show. It really is that simple.

I don’t think any number of people liking or disliking something is an argument that has any merit. Discord is a being of chaos. You don’t really befriend chaos. You fight against it to create order. It’s an old motif in human stories, really.

Discord on the other hand deserves every ounce of hate he gets, because unlike Starlight, Discord has added nothing to the show since the moment he was reformed, and has only gotten worse with every single season.

And my counterargument against that is by simply looking at how many bronies (me included) consider him to be their absolute favourite character in the show, given how much he alone had stood behind a lot of the show’s humour, drama and visual spectacles ever since season 3. He is actually the one thing that drew to start watching MLP in the first place, and having him be this more morally ambiguous character that he is instead of transforming him completely into something unrecognisable makes him a fun character to have around.

How did nobody look at the twist and realize, “Wait, this is a TERRIBLE idea!”?

Drama, or controvery, has become a badge of honor for any subject if we go by my field of study: psychology.
Emotional skill is measured by the ability to actively engage in stressful situations without succumbing to that stress.
Discord servers are excellent fields of study as one of my professors has said. Yes, chat servers are observed.
Long story hold short, the more drama, the better your EQ. I especially like Captain America as he’s a textbook example of the valiant knight typology.

Despite having hidden the tag, these excellent answers have fortunately jumped into my notifications. And boy I’m happy to read people that think differently and raising valid points:

@BP: True. 24 tags is far from a real fandom drama. And if you liked the decision, well, good! In fact I’m one of those who thinks that the memories making Fluttershy cry are a worse punishment to Discord than turning him to stone, and even more if you’re like me and think that they’re a couple at the end (then again, they may not: this calculated ambiguity was an excellent idea by the writers all things considered).

@DiamondDust: 2 points:

  1. We agree that the Brony fandom must not forget this faux pass to ensure a better future for the franchise.

  2. Your third paragraph: It’s absolutely true and I didn’t even stop to think about it. Even if Glimmer’s reformation has had its good and bad moments, Discord has experienced a notable decay.
My two stances to justify the writer’s bad decision are quite lame and a bit related to this: the first is that Discord can’t stop being the Lord of Chaos, even if he has to make a fool of himself. That’s why he’s forgiven: he doesn’t realize it but others do. “He doesn’t know better. Pity him”.
The second is still worse: The writers really wanted to troll the fanbase and Discord, in the end, is in fact, John DeLancie himself throwing a bucket of vitriol on all of us.

As you can see, they’re so far-fetched that even I can’t take them seriously XD

Okay, I get what you’re saying, but at the same time, I don’t agree with you. If a well made product can be praised for years, than by all right a badly made product can be criticized. There should not be a time limit to how long someone can dislike something, especially if it nearly ruins how you feel about the product in the first place. People should be criticized for bad writing, so that future writers can learn from their mistakes, instead of repeating them.

Much like Fonz jumping the shark, there’s a reason why these type of moments are difficult to forget. Jumping the Shark isn’t just a single bad moment, it’s a literal trope for how not to write a story. I don’t even consider this the moment the show truly jumped the shark. That was actually back in the finale to the previous season, when the princesses sent Cozy Glow to HELL without evening trying to reform her.

I personally like Starlight Glimmer’s character, and find her to be one of the more enjoying things about the later seasons. However, a lot of her story arc has been handled pretty poorly. Which is why I can understand a lot of the hate her character, and overall reformation has gotten. While Starlight does at times get more hate than she actually deserves. Discord on the other hand deserves every ounce of hate he gets, because unlike Starlight, Discord has added nothing to the show since the moment he was reformed, and has only gotten worse with every single season.

Imo it was the best decision of the latter half of the show. So it’s all obviously just opinons, hence the O in IMO. And since it’s all opinions, it doesn’t matter in the slightest. And it can’t be objectively bad either, because that would mean you think hero’s journey is a legitimate rule and not a joke. And discord drama? What drama? Disliking something isn’t drama. 24 tags isn’t even substantial?

Well, there’s still Glimmer drama here and there so go figure.

OK, yes, it was a terrible decision by the writers, an unforgivably dumb decision that I hope it has some repercussions in the future and a clear jump the shark moment but the fandom needs to move on. We can’t change it unless S10 on the comics adresses the issue (sad, isn’t it?).

Sadly, it’s over and harm has already been done. Like immortal classics such as the ending of The Third Man that caused people to send death threats to the main actress (and that was 1949) and forced Graham Greene to change it in the novelization, Indy in a refrigerator, Jar Jar Binks, Moonraker’s double-taking pigeon, Mare-Do-Well, that piece of shit Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler perpetrated damaging both actors’ careers in my eyes, many particular episodes of series that we find awful or, well, The Fonz jumping the shark.

Move on, but don’t forget. And now, I’m going to put the Discord Drama tag in my “Hidden” folder (that said, this has been minimal compared to the Starlight Drama).
