I think he was making fun of that guy from that IGN video whom stated, “Sonic was never good,” during a preview of “Sonic Mania” years back. Needless to say, it kinda upset alot of Sonic fans, so they countered it, by turning it into a meme.

Yeah, I don’t get that, as honestly both characters are quite similar. (With some differences, like Sunset is more outgoing, while Starlight’s less flexible.)
 
What’s hypocritical to me is people hating one character, and yet loving another character for the same reasons they hate the other.  
If that makes sense…  
Like people say Starlight is a “Mary-Sue” for being good at magic, yet are fine that Sunset is good at sports, science, video games, and almost everything else she touches. (Not to mention, Sunset sort’ve has her own unofficial element of harmony, “empathy” or whatever it was. Starlight just gets a school position.)
 
I’m sure it goes vice-versa, as well, so I’m not trying to just single out Sunset. (But as I said, I rarely see Starlight fans that hate Sunset, compared to the latter.) Starlight’s just a more controversial character, I guess. (Ironically, so was Sunset before EqG even came out. I remember some hating her for being a “toy character,” and such.)
 
I remember fans used to beg for “more Trixie” in the show, then after that finally happened, suddenly fans started to get tired of her, or even hate her.  
So honestly, even if fans had their wish granted that Starlight “never existed,” and Sunset was instead in Starlight’s position/role, I bet she’d be the one getting all of Starlight’s hate instead.

Yeah, agreed, the only reason Sunset gets away with it, is because there aren’t as many EqGirls “episodes” as FIM ones, so I guess fans don’t feel as burnt out on her. (Though, personally, I kinda wish we’d get more insight on the Mane 5, rather then just focus on Sunset & Glasses Twilight all the time now. Of course, people say “They get plenty of spotlight in FIM,” but forget those are their pony counterparts, and I kinda wanna learn more about the human ones too.)
 
If Sunset was in the main FIM show as much as Glimmer was instead, I bet she’d be the one getting all the hate instead, and being accused of “ruing the show.” (So maybe they should be thankful that Sunset sticks to EqG instead.)

Also not hating on sunset I do remember people claiming that starlight was taking over the show (a claim that got weaker every season) but that’s pretty much exactly what sunset did was Equestria girls she became the main character pretty much since the third film

I sort’ve understand your frustration. While I don’t hate her, I don’t understand all the hype over her, and I tire of people bashing FIM for not using her as a prominent character. (This is probably why many Sunset fans hate Starlight.)
 
I once merely criticised Sunset on this site, and suddenly like 5 people started calling me a “hater,” say I’m a “Starlight fanboy,” (though I’m not those things) and hassling me…
 
Meanwhile, I see tons of Sunset fans bashing Starlight (not “criticising,” I mean people saying they want her “dead,” or “Sunset better!” and such) on Starlight pics, (and not getting in trouble for it) and even saw one admin openly hating Starlight, (won’t say who, to avoid drama, or trolls going after him) and calling her a “Mary-Sue,” and such..,  
Meanwhile, I’m sure if somebody said that about Sunset, (especially an admin, whom is supposed to sort’ve set an example for us) all hell would break loose…
 
Now let me stress, I’m just using Starlight as an example of double-standards, I’m not a huge Starlight fanboy either. In fact, I used to dislike Starlight, but after witnessing all the constant rabid hatedom of her, (or people skipping an episode just because she has one line of dialogue in it) made me decide to give her another chance, and I’ve warmed up to her.
 
PS: Let me stress, I know not all Sunset fans are bad, or hate Starlight, but the “Sunset VS Starlight” drama was stll annoying. (A friend of mine still refuses to watch any episode she’s prominently in, and is a member of the Starlight hate club on FIMFiction, so I understand not everybody has to love every character.) At least. it’s calmed a bit in recent times.

it’s sad that hating Sunset is a big no-no in this fandom when other characters garner hate at such levels that might make folks outside the fandom say “Geez, these people are sick freaks!”. if some of the more unsavory Sunset fans are entitled to hate Starlight, Flash, Diamond, or Flurry or whomever without anyone judging them, I too can express my strong dislike for Sunset–if they can’t tolerate it, then they shouldn’t say a damn word about it and should keep it to themselves.
 
and to those fans who joined the fandom solely for EqG and to those who turned on FIM in favor of EqG, I wouldn’t consider those guys genuine My Little Pony fans or “bronies;” they’re just in it for a show that frankly has little to do with ponies. they don’t even like ponies, so we can’t consider them part of this fandom–they might as well break away from it and become their own group.

Truthfully, I hardly ever see anyone that hates Sunset Shimmer, or EqGirls nowadays. At least, in this website.  
(Heck, I see more people hate on characters like Starlight, or Flurry still.)  
In fact, some bronies soured with MLP, moved to the EqGirls series instead, which is kinda ironic, given all the hate that series used to get back in the Season 3 days. (Even before it came out.)

I’m kinda the opposite, I enjoyed the episode, but honestly barely even noticed the fan-service (and frankly I’m not a huge Sunset/EqGirls fan, nor a big LyraBon ‘shipper, but I’m not a hater) so that wasn’t a big deal to me either way, no offense.

I don’t think it’s that, as much as they’re afraid the image was meant to spark arguments about the finale, which unfortunately alot of these pics do, regardless if they’re funny, or not.
 
And judging by the amount of likes & dislikes this pic got, I’m starting to feel like I’m the minority here. (In terms of “liking” VS “disliking” the finale.)
