It’s like, I can’t tell if everyone involved has never seen this side of the internet, or they have and wanted to see how much they could get past the radar.
I honestly don’t think this is done to see what they can get away with. The runaway food conveyer belt scene (including the part where whomever is involved attempts to eat the ones going wrong) is a classic bit of comedy. So much so that this is the second time it’s appeared in relation to this show. And Pinkie did almost the same thing here as she did then.
 

 
So yeah, it’s probably not meant as anything other than an homage to something they find funny.

I thought the same thing with the alicorn allergies short from a while back.

If they gonna go 3d, then they have to make it appealing. Cartoon animations like this, just doesn’t fly in 3d.
