Well, Cosmos was originally intended to be in the movie as the evil and jealous brother of Celestia and Luna because Celestia and Luna were originally intended to be the “Abel” of the film while Cosmos is the “Cain” of the film. And Cosmos was originally intended to be the main villain of the film. Well, one of the two main villains of the film alongside the Storm King. But for whatever reason, the movie was changed. And Cosmos was unfortunately scrapped and taken out of the film and much of his role in the film is replaced with the Storm King being the main villain of the entire movie and Cosmos was finalized as a female unicorn with a broken horn named Tempest Shadow.

As seen in the illustrations, they had concepts where the armor’s helmet was less pony-like and more like some other type of creature, like a dragon or griffon, and there were claws on the legs of those.

In the earlier concept of the film, “Cosmos” was meant to be in this kind of armor to disguise that he’s a pony, which was meant to be a major reveal later in the film. As the character name and premise shifted though, the mechanical armor concept was dropped in favor of giving Tempest form-fitting battle armor.
