Backstory: Her ancestors escaped the Crystal Empire during King Sombra’s reign and took refuge in Canterlot. Many generations later, Crystal Cool was born, but only in Ponyville, since both of her parents from Canterlot had moved there.
 
Throughout her childhood, Crystal’s parents had taught her about her family’s heritage, and that someday, she would be a Crystal Pony, and she would get to visit the Crystal Empire. However, growing up was tough for Crystal, as she was constantly bullied by other ponies at school for not having a cutie mark, except for Grace who really had high hopes for her and gave her some comforting advice. It wasn’t until one day, when Crystal was all alone at the playground, when she was about to get hit by a ball. When she noticed the incoming strike, she instantly became crystallized right before the ball hit her, causing her no pain. When the other foals noticed her crystal appearance, they also noticed that her flank was glowing, which meant that she had earned her cutie mark. While Crystal was happy with the fact that she earned her cutie mark, her parents, however, were very shocked that she could crystallize herself without the use of the Crystal Heart. As a result, she was told to keep her crystal identity a secret, which caused her to become isolated and alone. The incident had caused Crystal to hold a grudge against her classmates, even to those that didn’t do anything wrong to her, especially Destiny Blood, who was her main target. However, afterwards, Crystal was genuinely remorseful for her actions and wished that she and Destiny could be great friends someday. Even after meeting her again after so long, Crystal was still cold towards her, but it was mostly because she cared about her.
 
Crystal also struggled with relationship issues, as she had many romantic relationships that didn’t last very long. When it came to breakups, Crystal would feel like it was her own fault for letting them happen, especially considering all the toxic things she has done during her childhood. However, she still hopes to have a relationship that would last a lifetime.
 
Luckily, things have started getting better for Crystal. Crystal has started learning to get along with others and has apologized to those whom she has wronged before. Whenever she’s overwhelmed with stress or other negative emotion, she would vent it out via writing a journal instead of taking it out on other ponies. Crystal still lives with her parents, but the conflicts they get into rarely happen. Most importantly, despite her crystal powers contributing to her lifelong problems, they’re one of the things that Crystal is grateful for because it allows her to protect herself and those she cares about.
