They didn’t “give” us anything. They put things in front of us to make money. Once it becomes a for-profit endeavor, we all have every right to criticize. It sounds more like you’re taking the moral high ground by basically chastising anyone who doesn’t like it as being ungrateful, and then ironically telling them not to take the moral high ground.
 
The moment you put something out for money, we all have every right to criticize, especially when you shoot down fan-made products that were being made for free to make a for-profit product.

No, I am very clearly mocking the extremely stupid concept of ~~le phone apps aren’t REAL games~~ in general, I neither know nor care who you are or what your deal is. There are a multitude of wildly different game concepts on the market because there are a multitude of wildly different ways that literally billions of people like to play games, and shockingly enough some of them are going to like things that you don’t like, and vice versa; if you take “this thing is stupid” as a personal attack because you think that thing is totes r0xx0r, that’s entirely on you.
 
It would have been great to have had a much wider variety of games for G4 over the years. It would have been great to have had a wider variety of toys and figures and playsets and licensed whatevers, too. We didn’t get that, and shitting on what we did get for the sole and exclusive reason of being salty about what we didn’t does not actually plant you on any kind of moral high ground or rhetorical checkmate pedestal the way you seem to think it does.

Tweeting about it right before the 1.0 launch after months of radio silence regarding it, I wouldn’t really call that active engagement.

Sorry, but I would not consider barely maintaining over 100 players daily “successful”. That’s not a market success. Not being able to get over 1,396 players at the highest peak the game ever had which it peaked almost instantly after release is by no means a success. I get you guys think it’s a good game, and no one is contesting that, but what is being contested is if the game is worth investing more into or if it was a success and the answer is not an “opinion” but factual: the game is a market failure. It has failed to even garner a substantial playerbase and I would be surprised if anyone made a profit.
 
The game was being sold, therefore the goal is to get money. In terms of how much it’s made, it clearly has not made that much.
 
It’s an example of how a game can be “good” but still fail.
 
That’s not even including the other shortcomings like how badly the marketing was handled such as announcing the game would “release” in “early access” only days before the announced release date, which was already significantly later than the original promised date, and now the game is finally in 1.0… Many years after the initial promise.
 
I get you all like the game, but the reality is despite how much you like it, it IS a failure. Not being able to get over 200 players in a month on average is pitiful numbers for a game that had nearly half a million in funding.
 
Take off your “I like thing” glasses and look at the statistics from a logical stance.
 
If they had to give copies to people who crowdfunded, that means that the half a million+ that they used to make the game is basically breaking even from those. Meaning they need more players than people they gave the game to for backing it to make a profit.
 
There is over 10,000 copies they had to give to backers. Yet they have not ever managed to get 10,000 players… If you even assume every monthly average is unique players and add them up… They don’t get over 10,000 and that’s being generous. So that means that even the people who were given a copy for backing the game have very little interest in it on a statistical level.
 
Please stop using “well I like it!” and “I see lobbies full” and personal experience as some kind of evidence against stats. Stats don’t lie, and it’s pretty clear the game is not profitable.
 
Hell, I don’t know how people can even say this game delivered on its promise… Literally, every release date we were given was delayed. Even the 1.0 release.
 
On top of the delays, they are constantly toting “releases” as “full” but they aren’t. The 1.0 release isn’t even really a 1.0, since LITERALLY only the first chapter of the story is included. This is on a game that is already 2 years late for its final release. I’m sorry, but I don’t reward mediocrity. Maybe they should have spent less money on getting voice talent like Tara Strong and more on marketing the game better to get it to see, or training to get people to meet deadlines.
 
This stopped being a “fan” project when they accepted over half a million dollars to make it, so people who paid for it want the game to be SUCCESSFUL not just “people like it” because success means they can count on the servers to stay online, and for future content to come out. The game performing these numbers and excusing them and brushing the criticisms I’m pointing out under the rug basically is going to hurt the people who enjoy the game more than those who are upset. If Mane6 doesn’t do something to make the game profitable and increase player count, they will have a challenge in justifying keeping the game online or supporting it in the future, then everyone loses.
 
So please, stop just defending something you like just because you like it and recognize that my words are not out of hate, or out of anger. I want the game to be successful, but I am asking “why are we even caring anymore?” when it’s clear the prevailing mentality is no one cares if the game is successful and when the game ultimately flops, it’ll be shut down. So why should we care if this game will likely be so temporary because people can’t handle criticism of the developers?

Read the above: I am speaking from a numbers standpoint and I am speaking in a manner of wanting the game to be successful for the sake of the people who backed it. I think you all know a game can not stay afloat for very long with these numbers unless basically the only players are like the same 30-50 people which will increase the skill requirement to “get into” the game and thus creating sort of a melee situation where new players are gatekept out of the game.
 
But hey, if you want to just write off anyone who proposes legitimate concerns as a “contrarian” or “trying to start drama”, then that is your right. Just don’t get upset when the game gets shut down for lack of players and everyone is going “how could we have prevented this!?”
 
Or hey, maybe I am wrong and the game will survive, I’m just pointing to statistically that’s not likely, but stranger things have happened. I’m not just some contrarian who thinks I’m always right, as I am admitting right here there is a chance I could end up being proven wrong, but with the evidence I see… I don’t see it.
 
How about instead of just branding me as a contrarian, saying I don’t know what I’m talking about, or saying I am trying to be purposefully negative for the sake of it, you do something to prove me wrong? I’m open to being convinced. Please, present me some evidence to show me otherwise. I want to be convinced. I want to believe that people didn’t just waste their money funding this game.
 
I backed up what I said with numbers, but all the responses shy of #C334 just gave me “the game is doing fine, but I’m not going to provide any evidence of that” Please give me the evidence! I will gladly accept evidence, but what I won’t accept is just “the game is doing fine, shut up”, because that’s not proof of anything. Seriously, I don’t see how you can act high and mighty when I present number and show where I got them and then act like I am the one being foolish. Dispute my numbers! Show me evidence that they are somehow wrong!

TFH is a solid #25 to #30 in the fighting game ranking monthly (not counting the 1.0 spike), with an average of 30 users per day, which for an indie ain’t so bad. Its not fucking tekken but it has a solid fanbase that makes monthly tourneys and is letting its mark for being a quirky fighting game. Even IGN liked it.

I have done all of the normal quests on the gameloft app (and in fact have more than half of the 800 ponies) and played all the others fine, that’s a really really shitty ad hominem you’re pulling out of your ass to try to diss me not liking apps as real games.
 
Is it too much to ask to have a REAL adventure with poners instead of very repetitive phone gameplay? Do you have to defend everything hasbro does?

Game is still pretty active last time I played(two days ago) with a good few full pixel lobbies and the game is mostly a solid fighter so I believe it succeeded in it’s job and with an interesting story and characters(plus a goat on the way) they’ve got a lot going for them, and marketing wise aiming at this fandom is more correct since this would be more up the alley(style-wise) of this fandom, Furries||,as one myself|| wouldn’t have much reason to be an audience other than the fact that some like fighting games with cool characters other than that trying to market toward them wouldn’t make much sense due to it being less a furry(mainly anthro) interest in bipedal characters

… Lauren was interacting on Twitter during the countdown and tweeted about the game after 1.0 dropped. She’s been their lead character and world designer this entire time it’s been in development since the crowdfund. Many other things you’ve stated here are also factually wrong. Why do you say things without actually knowing what you’re talking about? Block the TFH tag and let us enjoy our game.

Honestly, I don’t see the reason to care anymore. The player count for the game since it came out has been astonishingly low. They marketed the game almost exclusively on Lauren Faust and Bronies despite not really having much to do with the MLP fandom anymore. The money they spent on getting Faust and Tara Strong’s name slapped all over it would have been better spent marketing the game to audiences outside the MLP fandom, because as we speak the game literally never got more than 1,396 players at its peak time which is literally fewer copies than were given away for the crowdfunding by a significant portion.
 
Even the 1.0 release only really got the game a spike of about 500 players which has already dropped off as the player count is down to about 90-140 on average again. This game is a market failure, but people keep trying to keep it alive despite the fact that it’s pretty clear this thing was a waste of money to crowdfund, but post-purchase justification is going strong here.
 
This game is going to be forgotten after the developers meet their obligations to finish their backer rewards, or possibly even before then. Faust has clearly already forgotten it as she hasn’t said a word on it. Honestly, this game might have had more success if they put more efforts in marketing it toward furries.
 
It just goes to show you that just because someone gets good reviews doesn’t inherently mean it’s going to be successful.
 
Honestly, I wish the MLP fandom would stop shilling this game and even creating a section for it here on an MLP image board. It’s clear from the game’s player count that most of us are not interested in this game lol.

Eh, I kind of liked it when the iPhone version of the MLP game let me spoof its server so I could just tell it how many bits and gems I had. That was kind of nice.

I think you’re being too nice in your description of Hasbro’s legal … lets call it an “arm” to keep it g-rated. I was C&Ded by Hasbro once. I don’t think I walked straight for a month. Everyone thinks Disney is worse, but Hasbro has stables of freelance lawyers who don’t get fed unless they bring in a fresh kill. It’s not pretty for anyone involved.

Son, you do realize the project that was in the MLP universe was C&Ded and everyone involved threatened with being sued to the point of homelessness if they dared continue, promote, or in any way facilitate creating a fighting game in the MLP universe, right?
