Which makes a lot more sense than using a live animal who eats ponies without having some assurance he won’t eat you. Smiling has brought up circus acts, and putting your head in a lion’s mouth is very common.

Trixie said she had never successfully performed the trick before, not that she had never tried it. The implication was that the manticore was in on the whole thing and that her angst was about what she saw as inevitable humiliation, rather than death.

Thats one way to look at it, but the problem and difference is that there’s no end in sight for twilight. She’s a mess on the inside, and no one but Sunset has every been in the right position to give her major guidence like she did in rainbow rocks. The day twilight disagrees with Celestia directly is either season 10 material or ‘hell freezes over’ material.

Not only do I agree with all of that, I worry that it would absolutely be true. And that Twilight would use the tragedy of Trixie’s death to teach one of those life lessons.

Maybe she would have. Again, I have no idea what the show is doing anymore. They totally botched Starlight’s turn, Trixie comes back and is a total jerkass for some reason… I got nothing for season six.
 
I will say, if Trixie hadn’t shown up with Starlight and proceded to shit in Twilight’s Wheaties, if she’d actually maintained just a little of that great and repentant act from Magic Duel, whole different episode. Twilight might have even approved and supported the friendship.

And honestly I doubt Twilight would’ve done jack shit. Except gloat and lecture Starlight afterwards.

I’m aware of what a strongman is XD my point is, if you talk a big talk, someone might ask you to back it up. If Trixie had called herself bulletproof, and Snips had went home to fetch a gun, firmly believing she will not die, do you blame the boaster, or the small child who fervently believes?
 
I’m not trying to dismiss anything you’re saying btw. Twilight has absolutely made some horrible errors in judgement. But I will say with Lesson Zero she wasn’t trying to break up a friendship so much as introduce a conflict that she could easily resolve.
 
For no second prances… I dunno. I don’t even consider anything past season 4 to be real canon because the show has seemingly lost it’s way. I suppose this AU Twilight written by harried writers who have to answer to people who have no idea what a character should be might have been vindictive enough to allow a pony to attempt suicide publicly. But I would like to believe that had she not allowed Starlight to make the save that she would have done so herself.

I know I’ve had freakouts like that in the past. And have known others to fret over stuff like that too. Fearing losing their job/abandonment/etc from minor things. It doesn’t always come from something in the past, but is just how us neurotic crazy people think~

She was watching Trixie get into a canon aimed at a beast, and Twilight was very smugly aware of the limitations of Trixie’s magic. It was a win-win for her; private seat on a hilltop watching an annoyance kill herself, or take credit for allowing Starlight to try to save her.
 
And Twilight’d been studying under Celestia for a decade or so, since she was a toddler, and their relationship was shown to be fairly close. I guess it says a lot about either or both of them that she’d freak out like that over late homework. Then again, she thought the same in Hoof and Pony Show; given nothing’s ever been shown about Celestia being harsh, one has to question where the thoughts of cruel, overwhelming punishment for minor transgressions actually come from.

Twilight was absolute bonkers in Lesson Zero but it was still an absolutely entertaining episode.  
Also I love Twilight to bits but she was an ass in No Second Prances.  
Like, I love her but she’s far from infallible. Probably why I love Amending Fences so much.

I don’t think Twilight even knew about Trixie’s suicidal stunt, and in admitting she was wrong and telling Starlight Trixie was “the real thing” (despite the fact that she was using Starlight), she pretty much saved Trixie’s life.  
Lesson Zero was not just a minor panic, she literally believed she would lose everything she’s achieved up to that point, and be sent back to Canterlot, being taken away from her friends. It was INCREDIBLY stupid but not a minor panic at all
