Description

Hi there.

Even though I’m posting stuff in Newgrounds, I wanted to post a quick fanart right here to talk about an unfortunately common problem for Switch’s owners.

For those who don’t own the Nintendo Switch, the Joy-Con drift is an indirect imput from the joystick to a certain direction even if you haven’t moved it with your thumb. The problem is becoming very common and people, myself included, are frustrated by something like this. In my case, my left Joy-Con has a stick that goes up and my right Joy-Con has a stick that goes down. There’s a menu in the Switch where you can calibrate it as many times as you want, but the problem comes back, even less than a minute after “fixing” it.

I don’t have a problem with the drift in Smash Bros Ultimate because I use a GameCube controller. In games like Burnout Paradise or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe I also don’t have that problem because I constantly use the stick (welp, mabye expect the menus and all that). However:

-In Zelda Breath of the Wild, Link runs foward even if you want to do sneaky attacks against sleepy enemies and the camera looks at the grass
-In Mario Odyssey I have the same problem and that game requires some precise timing
-In 52 Worldwide Games, the games that requires the joystick can mess up your match

I haven’t tested in 2D fighting games such as Blazblue Central Fiction, so I don’t know what would happen. But not only this is a problem that makes a huge impact on gaming experience, it’s also very unpredictable. The problem comes back in the most inappropiate time, the imput goes to right, left or down, it affected recent Switch owners as well as old Switch owners… it’s a mess.

There are ways to fix the problem without opening your Joy-Con by using tools, like component cleaners or alcohol. I tried some water and, even though I didn’t have any problem for minutes, after 20 minutes the drift comes back.

I’m aware this is like beating a dead horse by this point, but I wanted to take the opportunity to make a fanart and talk about this problem. I’m more worried about the Switch Lite than the Joy-Cons because it’s an entire protable console. It’s more tricky than a game controller.

If you happen to not have the Joy-Con drift, don’t think about it and enjoy your games. Don’t worry.

Anyway, I’ll try to use a component cleaner next time.

Even though I don’t have a switch, that was a problem for me with a couple consoles I’ve had over the years; it’s annoying when you can’t control it. Sweetie really seems annoyed.

Wasn’t Nintendo offering to fix the JoyCon drift for free? Also, in newer Switch JoyCon models, didn’t they finally ellimenate that problem?
