Yeah, they already have cannons and gunpowder (I mean that’s what they’re putting in those fireworks, right?), so not that far off, I think.

We never see it in the show of course, but griffons (and maybe hippogriffs, assuming they didn’t always live underwater) would likely eventually develop rifle-like weapons. Ponies too, maybe, but pony weaponry would mostly be limited to unicorns and alicorns and might not even have any traditional triggers (no need for them if you can use magic to operate an internal mechanism to fire the gun). Other creatures would occassionally cut open captured pony weapons and attach various external triggers to them.
 
And Gallus, the cartridges aren’t edible.
