Description
The new goat character has been revealed! Her name is Shanty and she’s a pirate! They’ll be doing a gameplay stream of her on August 14th, 5 days from now!
I wouldn’t called them “knockoffs” but the surface level aesthetics are completely there and even the personality quirks. You can’t tell me that Pom and S1 Fluttershy or Oleander and Pilot Twilight Sparkle don’t share heavy parallels. And their company is literally called “MANE SIX”.
An expy is a knockoff, and yet all their personalities are completely different, so it doesn’t really feel like a knockoff of any of the characters that we had before.
For all intents and purposes, the Fightin’ Six are indeed Expy-s of the Mane Six, I don’t know why that statement is so controversial.
Could you just stop, please? We already understood that you don’t like her design, just let it go and move on. Others won’t just agree with you just because you say so. You think the goat is overdesigned, others don’t. End of story.
Tianhuo being a reptile longma was already mentioned as the only single reason that there’s a character that breaks the mammal mold. Thats the only reason there’s a character with pupils, since it’s a reptile. But Shanty has pupils and isnt a reptile. bad consistency.
More than just a reptile. Tianhuo’s eyes emphasize the connection of a firey dragon, her eye color was intentionally picked also firey to reflect her being a warrior. Paprika eye colors are complimentary to her fur. Good design is not random, but made with intent. Yet random haphazard decisions is all that can be seen with Shanty.
your current filter.Poms dogs are extremely basic too, even more so than Arizona with distinct colors nearly polar opposite in defaults that separate her out from Pom so you can still tell the difference between the puppet and the pupetteer. But not different enough that they feel like they have more weight than a character. Still good design, and like Oleander and Tianhuo the accessory element is why the main design is simplistic.
Sounds more like a crybaby anon who’s judging a book by it’s cover to me. You don’t even want to give her a chance to prove her fighting skills.
There’s excessive details around Shanty’s face, what is her most defining feature? her big ears, but the rest is clashing for attention. Secondary to that is her big bandanna.
The markings don’t do anything to frame her face like Tianhuo, and neither do the accessories like other characters. Velvet has no ‘hair’ instead floof, so her face is framed between the two eye catching elements with the rest streamlined. That’s good design
For Shanty the big ears, bandana, markings, horns, and thick hair contribute to a cluttered mess that her whole head just becomes visual noise. That’s poor design, and doubly so when the character is so short that its compressed with the rest of the noise like the underbelly orange color being there for no good reason.
Looking at everyone who is interested in TFH welcoming Shanty with open arms, I must be.
Seeing as it’s just the Anon bitching about her, I guess. Not really interested in TFH, so I’m not the person to ask.
So, I’m not the only one here? The entire community likes the goat pirate, right?
That she has more design elements than the other characters, somehow. I’m sure that there are other design elements that Anon “missed” when making the list that makes her on a more even playing field (like one of them being a reptile instead of a mammal or another attacking with a bunch of dogs that are also accessories, but those are just a very small detail).
What are you even trying to say?
Ever hear of less is more?
A) have unique accessories to bring interest to a simple design
Arizona, Pom, Paprika
B) Have fancy design, different colored or ornaments around the head but are otherwise simplistic
Tianhuo, Oleander, Velvet
C) Characters that have markings
Arizona, Tianhuo, Velvet
D) Characters that have openings in the fur, as a framing element
Paprika, Pom
E) Characters that had big ears
Arizona, Oleander, Velvet
F) Characters that had small or no ears
Paprika, Pom, Tianhuo
Shanty is (A+B+C+E), all other characters have less of a combination of design elements.
Honestly, it feels like you just don’t like the design, but have to make it sound bad to others than just accepting that it isn’t your cup of tea.
It isnt like Arizona but I’m sure that’s what the designer was thinking too when he made her. Fact is the goat breaks the design logic of the games character that Faust set up. The other characters with accessories are balanced with much more thought in mind.
Velvet’s horns and her neck fluff are essentially accessories and the rest is extremely simplified, the same for Arizona, her ‘hair’, horns, ears all have room to breathe and her markings arent haphazardly tossed in.
Tianhuo has her flashy fire mane, but everything else is simple. There’s also the case of Tianhuo’s eyes being the only exception to the rule and now Shanty is the only mammal with animalistic eyes.

I’m sorry, but your rant is already so hard to be made believable.
Oleander isn’t even close to as cluttered as Shanty what part of “the rest of the six” didn’t you read? She’s got a very simple and easy to get theme, her mane is a bit ‘thorny’ which works with her motif and frames the face. the only thing ‘complex’ about Oleander is Fred’s book which is just a side detail that doesnt detract from the rest of her design.

You may want to look at the Twilight clone than, or is the giant ghost skull less of an issue than a bandana and a goat having goat eyes?
Bandana, hair sticking out both ends, horns, big ears. All in the same spot with goat-eyes, facial markings and beard
It’s total visual clutter and a mediocre design, while the rest of the six is clear and professional.

I agree; if it weren’t for the bandana, she’d be, well… underdesigned. But thankfully, she’s just designed.
And perfectly well, might I add.
How is a goat with a bandana “overdesigned?”

You are allowed to dislike her for your own reasons. Just accept that there might be some who disagree and like her. And she’s not that different. Just a small goat with a bandana. Pretty similar to Arizona, actually.
