I feel like the show draws more from the Japanese interpretation of kirin, which tend to be horsier and more reserved in description than Chinese qilin, which are closer to dragons and Discord, yeah

either way all of east asia seem to have their own ways of representing them and it’s so jumbled lol

Discord is actually closest to the traditional interpretation of kirin as they combine a dragon head with a lion mane, deer, horse or ox body, one or two horns/ antlers, scales and cloven hooves. But these show kirins are much cuter.
