uuuh titles aren’t important.
i mean, i guess it’s eye catching?
but have Trooper as a shy little kid meeting his first friend!
there’s no way this can go bad, right? it’s just two kids in a schoolyard

“Mom, where are we going again,” Troop whined as he tried catching up to his mother, Twilight. She had pulled him out of bed early talking too fast for him to decipher in his sleepy haze. “Why did we have to get up so early,” he yawned, and his mom chuckled and she stopped to let him catch up.

“You’re going to school today, Cal,” she smiled, “You have to get up early so you can make some friends.” Troop titled his head.

“Huh? But isn’t school back at home.”

“You were home schooled, Cal, you need to go to a public school to make some friends.” Twilight extended her wing to herd along her son. Troop frowned. What was wrong with the school at home? He already had a few friends from home. And Flurry and Virus were supposed to visit soon, so why would he need more friends.

As he was lost in thought, Twilight sudden held out her wing, halting his thoughts. He looked around his mothers wing to see lots of foals playing around. They were doing a lot of different things, playing on the swings, chasing each other around, or just sitting in circles and talking. Troop frowned. That was a lot of foals…is this normal? He looked up to his mom, who was smiling down at him.

“I have to talk to the teacher first, but you go ahead and have fun!” Before he could say anything, he was left alone, staring at a playground full of other kids. This wasn’t like his home. There were normally only a couple of ponies around at a time, and it was big enough to be quiet. But this was loud! There were a lot of foals.

Careful to avoid any attention, Troop stayed along the outskirts of the playground, nervous of attracting any unwanted attention. “Maybe some of my friends will be here…?” Troop thought hopefully, but the longer he looked the worse he felt. He didn’t know anyone here…what if they didn’t like him? What if they made fun of him? …what if they only wanted to be friends because he was a prince?

“Um, hey,” Troop jumped, “Are you okay?” Troop turned around and saw who was talking to him. An earth pony foal who had a pastel pink, blue, and green mane. He had a nervous smile. “You look like your about to cry.” Troop nodded slowly, before clearly his throat.

“S-sorry,” he muttered, “I’m not used to being around this many foals.” The foal stared at him thoughtfully, before sitting down.

“Eh, it’s no worry,” he smiled, “I like being on my own, too.” Troop blinked. He seemed… nice? He smiled. But then he faltered. The foal noticed.

“Uh, did I say something wrong?” He fretted. Troop shook his head but avoided eye contact.

“You just wanna be friends because I’m a prince, huh?” The foal blinked, seeming genuinely surprised.

“What? Why would a prince go here? Are you pullin’ my leg?” The foal smiled playfully, catching Troop off guard.

“You don’t want to be friends with me because I’m a prince,” Troop looked at him in disbelief, to which the foal laughed out loud and shook his head.

“Heck, I didn’t even believe you were a prince! And why would that matter?” Troop continued to start in disbelief, almost slack jawed. Then, the foal picked himself up and extended his hoof. “Okay, let’s introduce ourselves,” he smiled, “My name’s Matrix Opal! I live on a farm not too far away! And what’s your name?” Troop smiled, blushing slightly. He was so nice…

“U-um, my name’s Calvary Troop! But, uh, you can just call me Troop…” Matrix Opal smiled, and they shook each other hooves.

“Well, it’s nice to meet ya!”

sorry about all the text! It’s rather small, but I feel like it’s not that good XD
Matrix Opal is important… we’ll be seeing him again…

Also, Troop was home-schooled during kindergarten, and Twilight pretty much taught him the basics, and he was sent to public school so he could make more friends. He did have a few friends from the mane 6 visiting with their kids, but being the kid of the element of magic, Twilight thought he could have some more friends.
Also, Twi calls Troop Cal. He prefers to be called Troop, but he makes an exception for Twilight.
