Description
Commission for ReversalMushroom. Finished two commissions this day but I can’t upload one of them yet.
This one too me AGES. I just couldn’t make a sketch that worked, and I tried over and over again. I had a different pose in mind originally but it just wasn’t working and I couldn’t draw it so I scrapped it and tried this and it sorta worked so I went with it.
A lot of people have no idea how fluffin’ hard art is and how soemtimes stuff just doesn’t work for you no matter how hard you try. sometimes even a simple pose just won’t work.
Anywyay, I’m not used to drawing villain characters (mostly cus I really don’t like them) but I like how this turned out.
I came up with the idea of using CSP’s tone pattern stuff to do the cel shading because she’s a comic character. I ended up doing a full cel shading base just to make it easier to see what I’m doing, then applied that to the mask for the dot pattern.
But then I decided to use those masks to combine them in certain areas carefully, cus I felt it had a nicer look.
I then got a bit carried away, after making a simple fake comic book layout background, when I realised that I can indeed convert images into dot tones XDD
So I then went nuts putting imagery from the power ponies episode into the background and converting them to dot tone patterns. From a distance I guess it just looks like pictures, but if you zoom in it looks real nice.
Very happy with how some of it came out composition wise toom like the buildings of (was it manehatten?) behind her to her left just really working with the overall line direction of maneiac and the typogrophy too.
Also I am happy with how the shading on the face came out XD It was just ‘okay’ but then I decided to change the lighting direction to under her face and boom, perfect XD
Also wanted her eyes to look a little more sickly and reepy from how they are in the show, cus I think that was the intention of how they looked.
Anyway overal very happy with it. Let me know what you think.
