Chrysalis needs that and proof she’s not going to be shanked/forced to be nice to people she despises. She doesn’t need to like or even care about the mane six as anything but enemies, she needs to not be suspicious and distrustful of anything that resembles the things she doesn’t like.

I would like to see Chrysalis participate in something like Nightmare Knights where her assets were used for fiding ancient artefacts or fighting monsters. She could do some good deeds to back up her reformation and have a job that feels important enough so her ego could tolerate it.
Background Pony #A388
I guess back then Chrysalis was wronged and that what led her to a dark evil path.

@Starswirl
Her villagers actually showed their concerns for that in that basement scene that they were unsatisfied.
Thorax was the only changeling that did this not because he hated chrysalis’s rule but as he said he cant bring himself to steal love from ponies. Proof of that is when he left to be alone.

A dictator can have ponies genuinely love them. Starlight Glimmer had most of the village convinced their life was perfect. However, when the chips were down, they both used violence to enforce complete obedience. She even makes that point herself.
Background Pony #986A
But I think with that mindset, the convo can end here.

Thought police?

Literally said what happened in that episode. Yeah, the “Gotcha” is too much I will retract that.
But other than that I am right. Thorax did abandon and Betrayed the hive.
Background Pony #986A
Then look back at how she treated the Mean Six

They were literally tree clones! What treat them as any more than that? even then remember she kept the mean twilight log with her.

keep in mind that changelings who don’t do as told (cough Thorax cough)get drained of love and life right in front of the others to make an example.

HA! Gotcha!
More like a TRAITOR gets drained of love in front of the others to make an example.
So yeah smiley evil buggies!!!

Or, keep in mind that changelings who don’t do as told (cough Thorax cough)get drained of love and life right in front of the others to make an example. I am not suggesting putting them in there for good.
Just put them there until the gang figures out on how to reform them or what to do with them.

At least putting them in a cage is better than turning them to stone if the writers wanted to leave it up in the air if they reform or not. As in if the writers wanted the fans to decide if they reform or not, its better to put them in Tartarus for that so its not horrible as turning them to stone.
At least they would still be able to move and talk and bicker with each other.
They probably should make it so someone actually checks on Tartarus too. Since both times someone got out, they had no one to find out about this. It took till the end of season 4 for anyone to find out Tirek broke out(who got out since somewhere in season 2) and no one knew till the end of the season 9 that Cozy Glow and Tirek got plucked out of Tartarus.
Tartarus needs a few tweaks to prevent escaping but also to improve it.

@nightshroud96
I’d argue against even that. Why should they be placed in empty metal cages that seem to be there to house prisoners forever given Tireks case? The fact that they put Cozy, a child, in one of those was already messed up as it was. No, give them a second chance and actually work towards rehabilitating them or at the very least put them in a prison with actual essential commodities like beds and food. Heck, I’d argue that not even Tirek deserved to be locked up in such a cruel place for so long.

@CORDZ2000
Except for the fact that the only reason Discord got that far was because he was not only set free and given a second chance, but also that Fluttershy personally helped him and refused to give up on him the whole way. The trio, meanwhile recieved no such curtosy despite one of them being a literaly child so its not exactly fair to point out that Discord felt bad when he was given chance after chance after chance despite him being at times, absolutely horrible even after he reformed. The fact that he’s free and unpunished while no long-term attempt was ever made to help the trio is unfair towards them.

While Discord tried to make up, just freeing the other heroes isn’t enough alone to make up for his plan. There’s still damages there.
Sunset was regretful and tearful after she got rainbow-ed, but she still dealt with people angry at her.
Discord is going to need to do more to fully make up for his plan, he needs to face proper consequences(not just his plan blowing up in his face). Like at least earn everyone’s trust back since the fact still remains, he went behind everyone’s backs to pull this plan. Its literally going to take more than having the heroes escape to earn back that trust fully.
Regardless, Discord showed the gang needs to take precaution on if he pulls stuff like this again(like making Tartarus Discord-proof to ensure he doesn’t pluck anyone else from there to use as cannon fodder, and also ensuring no other reality-warper tries to pull this).

I do want to say though that what discord did isn’t morally correct, im a very open minded person especially with fiction I Dont just look at things simply from oh whats bad and whats good. Thats not to say im gonna teamup my countries worst enemies to make my president confidence enough to rule. Ofc what discord did isn’t right in our mindset but I look at discord on some fundamental level differently yes he is capable of thinking through his actions and not causing chaos that puts others in harm, BUT he still IS a spirit a literal manifestation of chaos and disharmony, if this was any other character I wouldn’t be as forgiving, but because of this fact i see what the writers were going for and can sympathize with discord.

To discord using chaos to help out a friend make a friend confidence in themselves was completely kind, generous, selfless and noble he went so far to help twilight and even if it turned out for the worse. Can u imagine your mind your very philosophy how your very being works told you, that what u were doing made absolutely sense and was good because “what fun is there in making sense” remember that line. And once fully understanding how badly he messed things up, vowed to make up for it risked his life to do so and can be seen fighting on frontline to help deal with the threat he caused. Im not saying to like discord or to be a fan of the twist but i hope u can see im not just some crazy fanboy i have a legit reasoning in my soul as to why I sympathize with him.

Discord willingly sided with Tirek and hurt thousands, then brought four of the most dangerous criminals, three of whom were contained and no longer a threat, together to endanger the entire nation and either A) sacrifice them for Twilights ego, or B) allowed one to be killed and torment the Crystal empire again, and broke how many laws to boost twilights ego.
The MLP is intended for children, especially girls from 3 to 11 years of age and thus it is natural that the writers should create an “innocent” world with villains and heroes / heroines without reflecting more deeply on either background or consequences, to entertain and then show “examples” of friendship, acceptance, tolerance and learning - most often without going too deep. They do not want an “adult” world for the children, and often end up creating varied impressions that for adults can be a little too shallow.
But the Grogar / Discord deception was simply too much, and far too gross even by the standards set by the MLP G1-G4, here the writers had completely forgotten, and not realized that TV viewers live in a society where children have to learn what is right and wrong, and which is not allowed or possible to accept. Sombra was a frightening and brutal tyrant who gives the word “tyrant” new meaning. Chrysalis was a usurper who represented the opposite of what Celestia is, as a negative reflection of the world of ponies. Discord was funny, annoying and a good example of uncontrolled chaos and anarchy. All the villains represented something that the audience could recognize and learn about, even though Cozy Glow’s age was a grave mistake.
What happened in season 9 was simply unbelievably stupid. Instead of making sure that Discord can be neutralized by Grogar who could be his “father” who can defend himself against such a “deus ex machina” as Discord is, in the movie he was completely excluded because the level of strength becomes too uneven. Instead, Discord was turned into a villain, and created a big mess, his reformation was called into question, and his actions could not be accepted. Even in Europe, where one is far more liberal and thus less strict than in the US, this is something that the general moral standard cannot accept, and is punishable. Discord risked his life to release the Mane 6, but it was a big mistake to let the royal sisters listen to him and then not get him punished. This produces bad impressions on the fans and viewers.
This makes the whole thing with the petrification of the Terrible Trio who had undoubtedly tried to kill the Mane 6 and wanted to mutilate Spike to complete the work, controversial. Towards the end, the viewers were completely without sympathy for Discord, the writers did not realize it until it was too late, and the eternal debate about the Grogar / Discord deception becomes inevitable. Discord must be punished, for the good of all. Tempest Shadow was forgiven by the princesses in the movie, but we would have liked to have seen a trial where she confesses to her crimes and is acquitted, in exchange for her promises to help those who were attacked by the Storm king. We should also have seen something similar with Starlight Glimmer.
This is what the writers in Seasons 4-9 had forgotten; they did not realize that world development entailed a modern society with law and code of justice. They had chosen to continue with medieval practice from Seasons 1-3 when the princesses were practically the law by acting as jury, judge and executioner. Without realizing that when the created world is brought so close to human beings’ own world, it also means that one must include “adult” things such as law and legislation. Season 1-3 with the exception of the Crystal Empire was almost only about three solitary cities.
Children in our world must be able to understand the difference between right and wrong. Thus, the whole case of Cozy Glow and then the Grogar / Discord deception became much more difficult to understand, the writers had lost perspective on morality and ethics from a human point of view.
The comic here develops over time, so the outcome is uncertain.

U know i highly appreciate this comment even if we still disagree on some level you looking at it at a broad point of view u recognize the bad discord did without negating how he risked his life or meant the very best for twilight as ruler or negating how the trio themselves still were monstrous even with frenemies.

U dont just say discord should have been punished u say other characters who should have probably been punished too because thats been kinda my problem with this whole punishment thing as it seems people think only discord should be punished forgetting that if a character shows genuine remorse they pretty much dont get punished by the cast, if they have no remorse they get turned to stone, sealed like sombra etc. While we dont exactly fully agree or maybe even fully disagree i can respect this comment alot.

I would have rejected the script and asked for a new one where the original Grogar could put Discord out of the game — raw power is not needed

I would also like to pointed that out I’m also not fan of the fact that Discord used a death of Sombra as a leverage to keep loyalty of Trio. That was just messed up.

Which is why Chrysalis will be much harder to reform than the others, during “Frenenemies” she was the one who held back, while Tirek and Cozy Glow

Thing is, despite rejection of friendship in Frenemies, Trio managed to work together just fine (they pulled out the job stealing the book quite smoothly without any backstabing) and despite all of their bickering thet stood together to the very end. So, I don’t, their rejecting of friendship didn’t meant that much.

As for the reason why I think it is a bad writing is this:

Chrysalis behaved like selfish, power-hungry jerk who care only about herself, but she was willing to take a risk, let Tirek drain magic from body (which must be really unplesant) for the sake of team work. She showed a some spine in that moment.

Tirek is pretty power-hungry violent brute and he could just left Chrysalis on that mountain if he wanted. And basically his whole deal drain as much magic as possible. And yet he returned her magic.

Cozy behaved like cheky manipulative nitwit who just wants use others as a tools, but for moment she actually thought for sake of other by suggesting working together to retrieve belt.

For me it’s just really confusing if you want show tha somebody is incapable of change then you show it by that they are actually capable overcaming flaws that make them jerks in the first place.

@Background Pony #D8B8
Again, really bad writing. They made trio symphatetic and hinted for their reformation in Frenemies, only to turn by 180 degree in finale and turned them into a murderous nutjobs.

“Bad writing” or not, even an ordinary American with minimal knowledge of the laws of his country would immediately discover what is wrong with the script where Discord would break out convicted prisoners, give them assistance, unite them and then point them to important objects or weapons such as Grogar`s bell.

I would have rejected the script and asked for a new one where the original Grogar could put Discord out of the game - raw power is not needed, the spirit of chaos is powerless against antimagic objects that we know Chrysalis and the Storm king had. And thus will give the Terrible trio a chance for reform, so they can rebel against Grogar. A particular episode about the background of the three villains could have worked wonders - this was in high demand before and during S9. It did not come, too many episodes were bland and unsupportive towards the final.

During the final, the Terrible Trio fought without thinking of consequences, their only goal they wanted dead was Twilight Sparkle which they realized was the only true threat against them. She with her leadership qualities, friends and her magical abilities had demonstrated that they can not let her live. But they had chosen to keep all their other enemies alive, even when Discord had insulted Tirek he had not been killed after the captive uprising had been put down. Tirek will destroy wendigos immediately, like Cozy Glow he was unaware that these monsters would return if the ponies split up. Tirek was a warrior first and foremost. Chrysalis was a queen who had participated in war before, and Cozy Glow - she was more murderous than the others.

Looking more closely at the matches in the final, it is observed that the Terrible trio did their utmost to avoid killing their opponents, they had only one particular alicorn they wanted dead. So when the Mane 6 went against them, it was all-out as they had united against the Terrible Trio who needed to win a quick victory. Tirek and Cozy Glow want to stop the wendigos while Chrysalis did not care about anything but completing one of her goals. Tirek and Cozy Glow want power, and to have power they must have living and obedient subjects, unlike the Storm king they want permanent power as when they agreed to divide Equestria between them. Chrysalis did not care about anything but her own people, she knew about the wendigos and that they could wipe out Equestria.

Which is why Chrysalis will be much harder to reform than the others, during “Frenenemies” she was the one who held back, while Tirek and Cozy Glow formed a kind of father-daughter bond as they clarified the kind of relationship they have with each other, as enemies, friends or something in between. Tirek, as said here elsewhere, needs to see a psychiatrist to get help with his complexes around his father. We know nothing about Cozy Glow, thanks to “bad writing”.

You are right. I really hope something stupid happened in G5 so the writers can find an excuse not to include him at all.
It’s only logical since his VA is expensive to have.
