If its just a show in the g5 universe then nothing from G4 happened in the g5 universe. And you can also no longer make a parallel universe argument

Actually, I’d think abandoning G4 altogether would be “scrapping” it, but keeping it as a fiction show in G5’s Equestria would not be doing that. There could still be references and it would still be very much relevant. I just feel like keeping G4 and G5 as separate entities on their own would give the writers and directors more breathing room, as they won’t be confined by a pre-established world, and can take things in their own direction, all the while still maintaining the scope of G4 in the background.
I’ve wondered if FIM might be a cartoon in-universe as well, but all the pressers they’ve released so far talk like Friendship and Harmony deserve the capitalization. Maybe it was a show from G5’s recent past which was so popular it effected real social change, the way The Good Future in the DC Universe is frequently depicted as being “based on the ideals of Superman”, and society has moved on from that?
I’m pretty sure they also said they thought it was wrong to scrap the g4 lore and world And making it just a show is doing exactly that.
And personally I don’t want Sunny to literally be a pegasister

One popular theory is that FiM is actually a TV show in a fictionalized version of G5’s Equestria, much like our real world being portrayed in fantasy fiction. This could explain Sunny’s ideology. Plus “magic” could have metaphorical meanings beyond commonplace mysticism. Just throwing some ideas out there.

Actually, it hasn’t been confirmed by Hasbro that this is the case. From what’s been established, it may very well be an alternate canon from the original, in a different Equestria.
What are you talking about? We already know that g5 is a continuation. It is set in the future of g4.
It isn’t. The G4 characters vaguely cameo as figures of legend in G5, but there is absolutely no story connection other than that. The staff are aware of this mistaken conjecture and find it amusing.
