I’m libertarian, and I’ve seen the “Alt Right Neo-Nazi White Supremacist” claims thrown around again and again and again, to the point it’s lost it’s meaning.

I hate to break it to you, but there is still true homophobia and transphobia in America. You have plenty of states that think that it should be okay to put LGBT youth into conversion therapy, which might as well be classified as torture. You have trans youth going homeless because their families exercise their right to expel their kids for being LGBT. There’s still nationwide violence and hatred against LGBT, especially when certain people get into power. There’s still legal discrimination against LGBT people, especially in conservative areas of the country.
 
Does LGBT discrimination exist everywhere in the US? No. However, it exists in enough places where plenty of LGBT people don’t feel safe being themselves. They need a month to feel valid and human because that may be all they have.
 
America has come a long way in accepting the LGBT community, but it also still has a long way to go.
 
I couldn’t stay silent as an LGBT person who struggles to love herself because she was raised by a homophobic and transphobic family raised in a conservative part of the US.

Either he’s an LGBT person with internalized bigotry or simply another conservative pretending to be LGBT in order to give legitimacy to these claims that: a) discrimination and violence against conservatives is systemic, instead of almost entirely non-existent; and b) discrimination and violence against the LGBT community isn’t as systemic or rampant as people “claim” it is.
 
Both of them incredibly wild claims in an ambience of political polarization that has seen a huge spike in the formation of neonazis groups and Right wing terror attacks against the LGBT community and other vulnerable groups.
 
Personally, I would not continue to engage him in serious conversation. He is, at best, a bad faith actor.

I mean, you aren’t wrong by any means. Well… when it comes to the big companies that is. They really only care about their bottom line. If they can increase the money flow by slapping a rainbow on stuff then so be it. I find the smaller companies tend to seem more sincere about supporting the LGBT community.

I know right? That’s why I’m proud to be living in the US. It’s the safest country where people can freely exercise their rights without fear of prosecution, instead of using them to shit talk this beautiful country pretending like we have made zero progress to remove inequality and discrimination
 
Sure, there are still problems, but I think most of us in the LGBT community would rather look at how far this country has come and treat other as humans, and not just use the past as an excuse to bash and commit violence against non LGBT-members because for alleged “homophobia” or “transphobia” that anybody can just sling nowadays.
 
As an a LGBT person, I can’t tell you how happy I am to live in a country where actual homophobia and transphobia are such a Rarity.

Many do! And if they’re lucky they get arrested. Nevermind the places where just the suspicion of being LGBT is a death sentence, often required by law.
 
That’s sort of why it actually is important for LGBT issues and people be visible in places where they safely can be, so that the contrast with where they can’t is visible to more.
 
But alas, too many seem to be triggered and offended by the sight of gays in public or the reminder that it wasn’t that many years ago at all that it was seen as “perfectly understandable” to beat LGBT people into a pulp for shits and giggles in the grand old USA or Europe.
 
If orphans can deal with mother/father’s day and non-christians can power through Christmas/Easter/etc., then I’m sure non-LGBT people can handle the onerous challenge that is surviving pride month or the odd rainbow flag here and there. We all have our struggles, after all!
