Originally Jewjack was sort of a joke, but then I remembered that my own family (father’s side) was very rural and has a bit of a Semitic feel to them. It helps that they were from Eastern Europe during the 1890s/1900s, so the Apples might be Jewish and slavic.

Jewjack? I never heard of that before. It IS a matriarchal family though, so it would definitely work. It’d make Big Mac have a kind of silly reason for being shy and non-talky though. I wouldn’t be able to think of him as anything but Woody Allen crossed with the build of an Amish farm kid.
