Don’t worry! The artists that are better than you will eventually die of old age, and then you’ll be the best artist!
Kidding, but that is kinda how this works. Even really fantastic artists are still usually overshadowed by someone better and older. And not jsut artists, it’s every person in every skill. If everyone tried their hardest, then no-one would ever surpass anyone. So I don’t think that surpassing other people should be something to want to try to do. Instead, try to surpass yourself. That’s the one you need to constantly beat!
I myself have surpassed some artists, but it didn’t feel good. I didn’t feel proud. Because it was because they stopped practising that let me get better than them. It wasn’t my victory. It was their loss. What makes me proud is seeing how much better I am than I used to be! But, funny thing, I did slow down really really badly and to my surprise, two of my friends managed to get better at art than me! I was the one being surpassed, because I stopped practising! I’m really proud of my friends to have gotten so good so fast, and now I want to catch back up again. It’s up to me to keep it up. But it’s not a competition. I’m not trying to beat them. I just want to catch up so I can do art trades and fun things like that with them.
I’ve never enjoyed surpassing others. I don’t think you would either. I just want to get better than I was.

Thanks? at first it wasn’t really cheering me up, but, the rest was pretty encouraging, thanks Minus, but I deeply doubt I’ll surpass many artists soon, cause okay, I’ll improve, but them too, so… our gap of skill, will always be the same
but thanks for the encouraging words, I wish I’ll be good one day, but for now… I suck…

Your art’s not very good. Usually. But this pic up here is actually not bad.
But being bad at art is a reason to keep doing it. If people stopped doing art because they were bad at it, then we’d never have any good artists. I wanted to give up art myself years ago when I did badly in art college. But it was Bronies that got me to realise that I was supposed to be bad at art since I was still learning.
Even when you get good at art, you’re going to be thinking, “My art’s not good enough”. And that’s just how it is to be an artist. Even when others tell you it’s super great, you’ll be able to spot the mistakes. Now that sounds sad, but you’ll stop being worried about it! Soon as you realise the mistakes will always be there because you’re not the god of art, it should stop bothering you. Even the pros will have mistakes. Even they can still get better.
So, what do you think? Your art generally is not good. And it’s okay that it’s not good. But are you okay that it’s not good? You’ll never get better if you stop, so if you want to be better, don’t stop. If you stop you’ll never be good at art, but you’ll not need to worry about being good. It’s a tough choice. But if you keep going, and if you actually practice, then I think you’ll be pretty happy.
And by “actually practice” I mean that just drawing isn’t really practice. Something I found out VERY late in life, way after art college, is that practice is something else. Practice means drawings things that you suck at drawing, but doing your best. Try a new angle. Try more poses. Get more realistic with the shading. Or the fun one, try out styles from other artists that you like. The thing about these practice pictures is that they are going to be extra ugly as a result. You’re gonna struggle because you’re doing soemthing you’re not used to. But afterwords, your art will be better.
I’ve seen people with better art than you, but they’ve been the same skill level for 8 years. Because they dont ever practice they never get better. But you? You look like someone that does challenge themselves with their art! And so I bet you’ll surpass quite a few artists here soon enough.
Although I have no idea who you are, just came across this today, and so I’m making a few assumptions, but I did look through your gallery here. I do think that from what I’ve seen there, you’re going to be a good artist. Don’t be afraid to do bad drawings. Don’t be afraid to fail. Because failing means you’re challenging yourself, and challenging yourself means you’re learning. So really every bad drawing is a success! I think you should keep drawing.

It’s clear to me - You did a good job capturing the emotion. And looking at this, it shows you understand form. Vibrant colors and shading too. But you want to know what you excel at? Line art! Your line art is so clean! Especially around the tail. Those curvy lines can be tricky to get right, but you nailed it! People believe in you, it’s up to you to believe in you too. Keep up the good work!
