I mean, this is the same guy who was like “cartoons are modern mythology” which is already pretty ridiculous sounding. So I don’t think he should be taken seriously at all

This was actually a lot of people’s observations about Sunny. She was just as racist as Sprout was but it was more like “asians are cool cuz they know karate” sort of racism.
I didn’t realize that myself until I watched the bronies react to ANG when a couple of reactors mentioned it.

Plus, EQG’s a tired brand that caused many of the problems that G4 suffered from: chief among them being that rushed and halved Season 3 where Twilight was made an Alicorn completely out of nowhere because Hasbro diverted resources to make that EQG Movie in the first place. On top of the fact that because of the months-long hiatus between seasons 3 & 4 caused a large number of Bronies to quit the Fandom, taking away so many creative fans that felt sick and tired of this strange direction. And even when Season 4 came out, the show didn’t even know what to do with Twilight being an Alicorn now.
EQG was done on the grounds of capitalizing on the resurgence of Teenage Doll lines like Monster High in the similar vein of Bratz or Barbie, and it was terrible for that and wouldn’t be able to recoup its losses until after Rainbow Rocks, but make no mistake; that first movie was bad taste as a first Princess Twilight venture, especially since she didn’t really get to really spend time as an Alicorn for it.
In my opinion, the 2017 Movie feels more like the sequel to the events of Magical Mystery Cure, on the grounds that the more fantastical elements introduced between Seasons 3 and 7 weren’t even seen or talked much about. If THAT was G4’s first Movie, than it would have been a major hit with audiences.

And YOU have too much faith in G5’s current narrative direction allowing for flexibility so long as those Harmony Crystals hold all of the world’s magic in them. It is quite literally a Happiness Is Mandatory situation with those crystals holding the entire world and the narrative hostage; confining the story to only hang around Maretime Bay and barely have the chance to explore anywhere else.
And even if they do manage to somehow pull away from the Crystals as the central focus; it doesn’t mean jack that the Mane Five are too bland and dull to serve as our leads.
Sunny is either focusing on trying to learn about racial things without seeming to treat her friends as individuals rather than subjects of observation, she Soapboxes her conversations about unity between the Three Tribes without even bothering to offer a substantial reason as to WHY they should unite, and every other occasion when she’s not doing either activity; she just gushes about G4 stuff. She has no identity that viewers could try connecting with.
And don’t get me started on how shallow the world building is here with the Three Tribes only being confined to three locations instead of allowing themselves to spread out in any meaningful direction. Zephyr Heights suffers the most of this due to all of the businesses and groups that fill it up to make it seem like a parody of the modern day, instead of being something that can be timeless like what happened in Legend of Korra which felt like the roaring 20’s with radios and basic Ford-like automobiles, or like in Fallout which had a distinctly 50’s Sci-Fi aesthetic to it. I go into these shows in a bid to escape the modern day real world; not to be reminded of it by seeing Pipp playing with a smartphone and being a social media influencer.
It’s part of the reason why I love Fallout: Equestria, and why I consider it to not only be a better series to G5 because it is not only set in the same universe as G4, showcases races and creatures that were a part of G4, tells us what exactly happened between Fo:E and G4 to have everything go to shit when the main characters reach there, offers us up locations that were shown or mentioned back in G4, actually bothers to tell a story instead of stringing along aimlessly, has surprisingly deep and complex characters in it with their own likes, dislikes, virtues and vices galore, has a main character that actually manages to hold her own in a fight but isn’t afraid of asking for help, actually thinks up plans and considers the possible long-term to her actions, who manages to have a whole Character Arc (GASP!), has actual chemistry with her friends that travel with her…
You know what, I feel confident that this picture will get my message across about how much better of a story Fallout: Equestria actually is.

I’ve read the G5 comics. Not leaving a positive impression after only TWO chapters in…
Seriously, don’t these writers have anything more interesting to write about than just focusing the importance of the story on those damn crystals all the time? What about learning more about Sunny Starscout as an individual instead of having her focus too much effort on learning racial stuff about her friends or constantly gushing about the events of G4?
It just goes to show how pointless and wasted of a premise G5 actually is. Just as bad as Disney’s Star Wars Fanfic Trilogy where half the runtime is spent tearing down the OT Characters while propping up an undeserving Mary Sue with layers of powerful bullshit Force Abilities with no formal training whatsoever and ends with her destroying a character that was already dead.
Or Season 1 of Kenobi, where the majority of the runtime is spent not on Kenobi on Tatooine watching over young Luke Skywalker from a distance, but instead on a completely different character that Kenobi fughts against and an Underground Railroad-style plot involving Leia that Kenobi must rescue from the Inquisitors before returning to Tatooine at the end of the season. The producer even admitted that he never even saw Episode III at all before doing the script to Kenobi or seemingly had any editing, direction, or consultation. They didn’t even bother to try de-aging Hayden Christiansen when they did a pre-Clone Wars scene with Anakin and Kenobi.

G5 cannot really make the decision to either be its own thing or be a sequel to G4, and when it tries to paint itself as a sequel to G4 it has so many things wrong with it that as stated already serves to invariably drag down and ruin that hopeful ending shown in G4 by invalidating all of Twilight’s accomplishments as the new ruler of Equestria.
Outside of this, things regarding the world such as the distinct absence of familiar creatures or mentions of Non-Ponies that were present in G4: characters like the donkies Cranky and Matilda who both live in town or Bessie and Daisy Jo who are a few of the cows that happily live at Sweet Apple Acres, to transient characters like Gilda who was close friends with Rainbow Dash in Cloudsdale or Steven Magnet the flamboyant Sea Serpent that lived in the Everfree Forest, or folks like Zecora the Zebra who lived outside of town with her own alien customs that are mistaken by Ponyvie locals (her initial scene of hoofing at the ground is seen as a Zebra digging at the underbrush to find grass or water, but for Horses it’s seen as a sign of agitation or anger) and The Diamond Dogs who lived close to the edges of Ponyville and dug for gems deep underground for their unknown purposes (I still feel bitter that we never got a chance to edpand upon the Diamond Dogs outside of their only episode in the show) which all offered up a wider range of potential storytelling and character design for the showrunners to go ham with when presented as an option. To instead have the story just revolve around Ponies alone serves to make the world of G5 feel all-the-more emptier and claustrophobic compared to G4.
Dismissing the arguments of how come Sparky Sparkster managed to already have wings upon hatching when all other Dragons seen in G4 initially start off wingless only to get them through The Molt, or the distinct fact that there doesn’t seem to be any possible mention of Hainus (which is a golden opportunity for Cryptozoologists and Japanese Folklore buffs to strut their stuff in G5 instead of just blandly calling creatures like Cloudpuff a boring name like “Flying Dogs”) in G4 which would have absolutely been the go-to pet for Pegasi and other winged species like Griffins and Hippogriffs…
…there really is no possible way to try justifying the extremely-deformed shapes of Bunnies and Rabbits in G5 when examples like Angel Bunny are already well-established in g4.

In fairness, that scene with the shadowy alicorn should’ve been saved for after the credits. So, you’re right about that, at least. Personally, I’m glad with G5 starting as the blank slate it was. And frankly, after seeing the finale, I figured Twilight would be a lousy ruler anyway. But what would it take for G5 to officially kill the franchise for you?

@Background Pony #F508
I’m all for a mystery. The only problem is that it has to be a good enough mystery to follow and have characters that are likable enough to warrant my attention.
G5 failed to deliver on this front far too many times: First with that lackluster Pilot Movie which barely tried to touch upon the main characters personalities beyond the surface level stuff; making Sunny Starscout have an even WORSE character arc than Rey did in the Fanfic Trilogy; where at least there Daisy Ridley had the excuse of having to share the screen with A-List actors like Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.
Then again with the G5 IDW Comics; with Issue 2 already ramping up how badly Celestia screwed up to leave Twilight in charge of Equestria where her former student leapt to the nuclear option of holding the entire worlds’ Magic hostage with those three crystals in order to force the Three Tribes to remain friends (need I remind you that this is a middle-of-the-road plan of what was done by both Starlight Glimmer in Season 6 and Cozy Glow in Season 8?), it makes Twilight having learned nothing at all with this decision, and that hopeful ending of G4 is now ever more bitter to see knowing that Twilight Sparkle, the main character of G4 that we have followed for the better part of a decade: was ultimately the one really responsible for destroying Equestria and causing the events of G5 to happen in the first place.
And again with the Make Your Mark special suffering from having the villain not appear at the end as a cliffhanger like in traditional storytelling, but as a single 22-second long scene that goes nowhere with the plot; has a character that apparently had zero involvement in the current conflict of the episode or had any connection spoken of with the prior antagonistic figures, and due to her scene being sandwiched by two congruent scenes: both of which involving Maretime Bay, it robs the emotional intrigue and impact of a scene where we see a new villain entering the show from.
Just imagine how terrible the scene would be if suddenly after Loki is defeated; we cut to see Thanos looking at him through a portal thing only to cut back again to the Avengers finally arresting Loki and taking him into custody. THAT is how bad Shadowy Alicorns’ scene really is.
If you want to know my level of enthusiasm for G5: This is my response
Background Pony #7721
…So this is how G5 dies. Barely out of the gate, and we have a villain that is so disconnected from the episodes’ main conflict and due to manhandled editing is sandwiched between two scenes at the end of the special that SHOULD have been uninterrupted.
