In our last Development Update we stated that “barring any unfortunate circumstances” we’d be able to finish all main Story Mode chapters before the end of 2022. Story Mode production is continuing along, but there have been circumstances.

We no longer think it’s possible to make the goal of finishing the entire thing before the year is over while maintaining the bar of quality. Working on console ports and new localization systems demanded more time from our engineers and writers than we thought. Once they’re complete, we can make story mode our priority again.

Chapter 2, starring Velvet, is still in ze works. When we have more to share, you’ll be the first to know.

Version 3.0, the next major update for TFH, introduces a new gameplay mechanic: level 3 supers. Level 3s are cinematic supers that burn a max-charged meter to unleash your fighter’s true potential. Alongside the update comes fresh balance changes addressing several universal mechanics including (but not limited to) the metergain system, Cross Canter, and tech rolling.

We will have more news to share about version 3.0 during our featurette at the PC Gaming Show on June 12th. Check their site for details on how to watch. You won’t want to miss it.

Okay, since you guys have worn yourself out b**ching about random stuff, I can actually respond to y’all and tell you why I am having very little faith in this game anymore. This goes mostly to Camilla and Shadowking, but those words can be directed at anyone who is still feverently defending Mane6, while missing the main point I’m trying to convey. So, I’ll explain this in simple terms, from the very beginning.

I bought the game when it was in VERY early access. Back when Story Mode was just a distant pipe dream, and when training only had an ugly-ass white dojo with black squares all over it, and was mostly about silly target practice, than anything else.

I was pretty excited to see it develop, I was happy with the changes, I was glad to see it all evolve and grow bigger and bigger. All in all, it was a pleasant experience. (Even if I miss the original website for Mane 6 where each of the characters had their own snippets of story as to WHY they’re going out for the fight, kinda like a pleasant backstory).

Then they announced story mode, and… I was hyped as all hell, it was fun, it was enjoyable, seeing what was going on with Arizona made me excited for more. I spent quite a bit of time there, trying to discover every secret and so on. It. Was. Fun. For a while I felt that the game is going in the right direction. Heck, I even bought the goat, because I thought one extra character would be nice.

And that’s when things began to go downhill. After the first chapter of story mode, they just stopped to focus on any content updates. True, I agree, there were bugfixes and stuff like that, it’s needed. But then… they began to focus on online play, which is… very, VERY small in comparison with other games, and it’s definitely not enough to bring in more people. I guarantee that finishing story mode earlier would bring in more players, and then it would help fill the online lobbies too.

But… they didn’t focus on that. They put all their strength somewhere else. And now they’re announcing the game on OTHER PLATFORMS, and then also a BATTLE PASS. Which… Just… Let me explain it this way.

Let’s pretend that Mane6 is a construction company, and you hired them to build you a house. They were slow, but somewhat solid. However, as they built from foundations up, they did not put the roof. The house has rooms, has stairs, doors, windows, but NO roof. And instead of building the roof, they’re furnishing the house, painting the walls, putting things on the shelves… ANYTHING, but building the roof. In addition, whenever you point out to them that there’s no roof, and whenever it rains all the rooms are getting wet, they act like the problem doesn’t occur. Not only that, their friends come to you, and say “Look, but they’re furnishing your rooms, they’re painting the walls, it means they’re doing a good job!” while persistently ignoring the fact that your home STILL HAS NO ROOF. The rain falls in, during winter everything is covered in snow, and it deteriorates, you can live only on the bottom floor, and that’s it.

And NOW they announced that they wanna build 3 more houses. One green, one blue, and one red (figure it out), but built in THE SAME WAY as yours. The unfinished one. The one without a roof. And whenever you complain that YOUR HOUSE ISN’T FINISHED, all of their friends come out and say “But they did so much, cut them some slack, they need to get new money somewhere”, and all that jazz. In the end, you’re left with an unfinished house without a roof, get to hear they plan to build MORE houses without a roof…

And now in addition they said “Hey, pay us some extra, and we’ll also replace your furniture with the shinier ones”. All your objections and requests to have the house finished first fall on deaf ears. No new roof. More houses, and new furniture (paid extra) or GTFO.

THIS is why I have little to no faith in them. They are persistently focusing on ANYTHING but delivering the story mode, and they somehow managed to spin their narrative in such a way that they amassed a bunch of simps willing to defend them for it, claiming that these guys are working hard. Maybe they are, but not on the right thing. I’d be much more willing to give them my cash… again… if they finished the story mode AS PROMISED, 2 YEARS AGO, and THEN they’d begin to develop further stuff. As such, as of now, I just feel scammed out of my cash, and I feel like they’re laughing at my face while sending their lackeys to convince me that their actions are “hard and honest work”, while they outright REFUSE to deliver the stuff they promised to finish years ago.

Case and point. This is what I’m angry about. Not about the existence of new ports and BP’s. I’m angry that they’re out, BEFORE they delivered all their promises to their backers and before they finished the product. Because the game WITHOUT the story mode, WHICH WAS MEANT TO BE DONE BY NOW, is an UNFINISHED PRODUCT, no matter how you want to spin the tale.
Scam, or gross incompetence? Your choice.
I rest my case.

first of all, the season pass in Super Animal Royale is more like a traditional battle pass (Warzone, Halo Infinite, Apex Legends, Fortnite, etc) where as the one in TFH is more like other traditional fighting games, like Guilty Gear Strive, which include all the DLC characters in that season (as well as some bonus content, usually) for a reduced price, but you don’t know what characters your getting before you buy the pass. It’s the exact same thing here in TFH now.

And most of it is in fact, not done AND the game already came out. I don’t think you really get what people are saying. It’s not the existence of the season pass that’s the problem, it’s the TIMING of it.

What does Modus have to do with season passes exactly? Did you even read what was posted in what you are replying to? “ they also have Super Animal Royale and have introduced a season pass into THAT game as well.” Publishers have the power to meddle with games whether you like it or not.

They said that ranked mode wouldn’t be feasible to implement when the playerbase they have is so small compared to bigger named fighting games like Guilty Gear and Street Fighter. Hopefully crossplay will help a lot with that.

They’re taking their time working on this and the console ports.
They know it’s important, but these two are more important to them at the moment.
