Although I find it disappointing how quickly it wears off on non-crystal species; you’d think that every time members of the Mane Six reenter the Crystal Empire they’d turn back into their crystal selves, but no. Shame too, cuz I’d love to know what it’s like to have a crystal body.

From what I can tell, it’s basically how the show animators do it. They make a crystal texture, mask it over the pony, and then set a slight transparency and glow effect. Only difference I can see is the animators seemed to set a slight blur effect to it, and maybe left holes in the texture :D
