The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I’m pretty skeptical as to how much of this kind of additional material can be considered canon. This kind of comics usually involve a ton of alternative character interpretation, sometimes to the point of flanderization.

Case in point: mention in any Avatar forum or blog how much of The Promise/The Search can be considered canon and enjoy the fireworks.

My point is that originally she was a deeply repentant, ruined person trying to pick up the pieces of her life and try to be a better pony and a better sister, but now, since she isn’t actually repentant due to being the victim, rather than the villain, she’s just a whiny emo teenager with authority issues.

Luna Eclipsed was mostly about Pinkie Pie being a huge jerk. Otherwise it was about forcing Luna to change into a different person and adapt to modern days, along with demythifying her to the people.

And Trixie having a “my life went to shit, so I tried revenge, lost control and am genuinely sorry” is still more character development than most main characters had in all of S3.

Didn’t she turn back into Nightmare Moon for a moment in “Luna Eclipsed”, meaning she’s at least partially regained those powers, and are now one and the same? I felt like the episode was about her embracing her Nightmare Moon persona instead of fighting it, and thus coming to terms with herself.

And what Trixie character development? All she did was prove she’s willing to use forbidden powers out of pettiness, with a lousy excuse for redemption in the end.

I agree to an extent, but it seems like we still haven’t gotten the whole story. Issue 8 may reveal something that will make this less the case.

It was generally implied to be the very basis of her character in Luna Eclipsed, that she was hopelessly out of her comfort zone and merely attempting to redefine herself, and by the season 2 finale she was shown to be relatively well-adjusted. Plenty of off-screen character development, unfortunately, but it was something. Making Nightmare Moon a separate entity and Luna being a victim and ONLY a victim just… kills a lot of the appeal of her character for me.

At least there’s Trixie and her struggle to become relevant. She’s gotten more development in two episodes than most of the cast.

I think you’re slightly mixing fanon and canon there. I mean, she’s had two major roles ever since the Nightmare Moon incident in the series, only one being even closely related to her being a victim, which you’re treating as the only canon aspect of her character.

Yes, the excessive woobification gets obnoxious after a while, but what you have to remember everything on history with even the tiniest bit of tragedy (sometimes even without that) has been woobified.

It never affected my character, though. I’m still an obnoxious hammy fake with no friends or future. :c

Luna, on the other hoof, used to be a pony that did something horrible and paid the price for it, but, unlike most evildoers, was given another chance… in a world that has completely forgotten her, where she is no longer relevant. It’s like the best story of repentance crossed with Samurai Jack, what isn’t to like? Can you imagine the shame, being stripped of your power and cast before the pony you hurt the most, and then being shown mercy? Seeing her try to adapt to her new home and justify her own existence was fascinating, and made her a unique and complex character.

But now she’s just a poor widdle victim, just like her groveling fans wanted her to be.

No longer canon, she’s no repentant villainess, she’s just a hapless little woobie covered in the collective E-jizz of the NLR. Nightmare Moon is her own separate entity, which doesn’t make her any more of a good villain but certainly makes Luna much less of a captivating character.

Wow, it’s so cool!
Buuuut…
Her eyeliner kinda looks off, like they simply slapped the eyebrows and eyelashes on a light blue ellipse.
