Okay, come done fella. Smiling was just stating an opinion. (One that I share.) No need to get snippy.

So, because she’s sassy and sometimes snappy she’s not a nice person? Really? Does she go around breaking people’s necks or steal shit from shops? By your logic, you must never speak out your mind or be a bit more assertive because you are not a nice person.

The element that a user gets is tied to what that user values the most when it comes to friendship.
 
So while Rainbow Dash might not be that loyal herself, she does want loyalty from friends.

Yeah, Inspiration might have been a better choice for Rarity, but Generosity seems a better choice in context of friendship. Rarity does have a ton of selfish moments. (She made rarity pull a huge cart full of her stuff….WOW! Didn’t we have an episode establishing how close they are?) But she makes up for it and we do see her element shine. (More so on episodes focusing solely on it, but still.)
 
Rainbow Dash….I’m still not one-hundred percent convinced that Loyalty is the Element that suits her. In fact, she seems quite mean, self-absorbed, and downright antagonist.  
If she wasn’t a main character, we’d all think she was another Trixie. (Which she is, minus a sexy voice.)  
Sometimes we see good traits, but for the most part nothing. (And her supposed Element is the rarest to appear.)
 
The others are obvious. (Although, they sometimes push Applejack’s Honesty, but that’s more believable because everyone tells little lies sometime in their live. It’s natural.)

She acts pretty normal most of the times. They all do, even Pinkie. One of the goals is to show how different kind of people can get along.  
Plus Dash doesn’t want to seem nice anyway. She looks around worried that someone saw it.

“Loyal” and “Nice” aren’t necessarily the same thing.

Yeah, that’s kind of the thing. Unless they’re really pushing the Generosity thing to the front for plot reasons, Rarity is the least generous character on the show.
 
Kind of the same thing for Rainbow Dash; unless the episode is about her, she’s really not much a “nice” person.

She has the kind of element that works against her personality type (the kind that would make her an antagonist in any other kids show).

I couldn’t take Rainbow Dash seriously until the second half of S2 and S3. As for Rarity, she varies heavily between episodes, but unless I was told she was the Element of Generosity I would never have assumed that.

She was the saving grace of S3. Maybe because they did indeed drop the ball with her in S2. Not that she was all horrible (as a secondary character in some episodes for example) but it was mostly unused chance. And one episode that happens to be the worst that helps too.

The only times they reaaaly droped the ball were her early season 2 episodes where she had odd characterisation. But I believe moments like these highlight her character development throughout the seasons. She was really great in season 3, her speech to Spitfire in WA is my favorite moment from her because it shows how she matured from the start of the series till now. I expect even more good developments for her in season 4.

Which explains why Rarity is such a selfish beeyatch half the time.

Yeah, but I think episodes like “wonder bolt academy” work with those moments of Dash acting brash and show more in the way of development. :/

I’ve kinda felt the ball was dropped a bit too many times with Rainbow Dash, at least in the early seasons.
