In other words, you’re basically saying that it has some of the merits of the series, and it could be made better if it became more like the series, so why not just stick with the Pony series??
 
The movie exists, nothing anyone can do about that, but doesn’t seem like there’s any reason to pursue it further, even if it could, theoretically, become better.

I don’t think that this will be the case for this comic, as it is sounding like it will be a prequel that leads up to the events of the movie ( or at least 8 pages are confirmed to ). But if EQG did continue as a comic/TV series I could see that.
 
Probaly something like, because of Sunset Shimmer and the Mane 6’s actions small pockets of magic still exist in this world and now the Mane 6 ( with Sunset being the Twilight of the group ) have to fix what ever form of damage the magic is causing to there world.

There’s good stuff that can come out of pretty much ANY premise though, especially if you have a talented crew doing it. We should know by now that Hasbro can throw whatever crap they want at DHX and the writers, and they’ll make it good. However, does that mean that they should be thrown crap instead of quality source material to begin with, or have more freedom to work on their own ideas?
 
If Hasbro would want to make a spin-off series, who would work on it? If it was the Pony crew, they would have a hard time working on both series at the same time. So instead of having an EG series, why not just let them work on the series, or other stuff for that matter? Sure, you COULD make something interesting out of EG I suppose, but why do that when they can make more out of a better premise, or something they have a lot more creative control over.
 
Even if it wasn’t the same crew working on a EG series, why not spend that money to make a series instead on more Pony episodes, or a Pony spin-off, or a movie, or the many many other possibilities out there? Why pursue this idea when so many people DON’T like it, and it wasn’t something that Lauren would have probably ever made, and the motivation behind making it a reality wasn’t exactly great, and most importantly, the crew really doesn’t get the leeway with this EG stuff that they get with the series. They did it because they had to. Does that mean they hated it, or wanted to leave, or whatever? I don’t know. They take what they get, and make the best out of it, but it’s better for them, and better for the creative process overall if they get more creative freedom, and aren’t expected to make gold out of what was, quite frankly, not a great premise.

After seeing the movie, there’s a good number of fans (myself included) that think there’s something good that can come of this, if they avoid simply doing simply high school drama tropes and try to bring in some world building, even if they can’t go all out compared to Equestria.
 
The reason the movie works (to a degree) is that we’re still seeing 6 imperfect personalities and characters that work great together. It doesn’t matter if they’re human or pony, the complexities of their personalities and interactions is what are usually the good story drivers.
 
Yes, EQG needs to keep some type of fantasy/unrealistic element to make it something that approaches FIM, as the better stories there are ones that rely on some aspect of the world’s mythology even if driven by character (eg Sleepless in Ponyville). Comics, since they’re not limited by animation budget, potentially can do this, if they opt to take the concept in that way. No, I can’t see it going to an extreme like, say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I can see a world that magic and weird stuff happens once in a while, as a result of the movie’s events, could be interesting.

Does Hasbro or IDW, or whoever initiated EG in comics form actually think that people are going to dig this??? Unless…they do. And encourage more EG. And then it never fades away. And then they make a series…Ugh, I don’t even want to think about that.
 
I dunno, just seems like a LOT of people like EG just because it didn’t suck as much as they thought it would. Just because their expectations were incredibly low, and how can you not be impressed by something if you think it’s absolutely going to suck?

No-one read the Twilight Sparkle micro anyway.

This cover looks similar to the photo in MLP FiM’s opening sequence.

So since this is a prequel I’m guessing that the first 8 pages ( the Comic-Con ones ) takes place in Equestria just before Sunset first goes to the other world, and the following 40 are either following the other world Mane 5 ( seeing how they were friends and eventually Sunset breaking those friendships ) or Sunset Shimmer ( as we see how she got to where she was at the start of the movie ) up to where the movie started with Sunset returning to Equestria to steal the crown.
 
If that is the case we may not actually see other world Twilight outside of a page or two ( either as a character in the background or Pinkie bumps into her while in the city ).

Kind of, but not really, no. Same basic plot =/= shit quality, otherwise most of fiction is shit. Besides, the Pinkie micro was actually funny while managing to keep Pinkie in-character instead of flanderizing her like in recent show episodes. The Twi micro, btw, was boring.

The Fluttershy spotlight just had a message that wasn’t well interpreted. The Pinkie micro was great, it just had a very basic plot.

…..Hmm, now that there’s the comic adaptations, does someone know if there’s gonna be TV series?, but then again, it’d be too much work for DHX….

If anyone can take Equestria Girls and make it tolerable, it’s the comic writers.  
And even if this sucks harder than the Fluttershy micro, well, at least it’s just a standalone story.

The 8pg is Katie and Andy, that’s affirmed.  
That means the rest is Ted Anderson who was near perfect on the Pinkie micro comic. This could be very interesting.
