If you are referring to the beginning of the winter wrap-up episode. I think the point was to show that she cant’t dress herself up without using magic. Otherwise it would be easy for her to put a saddle on. ;)  
Otherwise they only wear clothes for special occasions. With pretty fancy clothes, which would require some help in general. ^^ Imagine a dress with a zipper on the back or a corset which gets tied up on the backside. And then add hooves (and no magic) into all of this and you wouldn’t be able to dress yourself without help too. ^^

Well i wouldn’t go that far. But we had really just one spike episode in which he tried to find out more about him and what it means to be a dragon. And some mystery how dragons grow up…  
On the other hand we know many characteristics from him. But they get mixed up pretty badly, since every author draws it’s own picture of him. In one episode he is Twilights #1 assistant, friend,brother and so on. In a other he is a clumsy guy who can’t bake a cake right. And sometimes he is a selfish greedy little dragon. And sometimes this mix well, and other times not so much.
 
But I agree. It would be nice if we see some more of Spike’s past and his Canterlot time.  
And maybe something about Celestias burned letter…

Yeah, he hasn’t been explored much for some reason.

There’s having a mysterious background and having no background, and Spike is more the second than the first. About all we know is that he was hatched by Twilight Sparkle and that he’s working for her now.
 
He’s apparently an adult by Equestria’s standards, or at least allowed to work full time, and out of mandatory schooling, but we know less about him than any of the Mane Six, and don’t exactly have a comprehensive biography on them, either.
 
Well, we also know that he usually only gets a book from Twilight on his birthday, which kinda sorta totally points against him being raised by Twilight’s family.

Spike being a different kind of dragon, or at least possessing relatively morphology, is pretty much canon.
 
But the deal with his flame mail, that’s just kind of weird. Why can Celestia only use it with him? Why did Celestia know how to teach a dragon something, and why can’t Twilight Sparkle use it?
 
By contrast, the special abilities of all of the Mane Six have at least been addressed, if not explained.

I still would like if we get some information on Spike’s past, I agree that is better if we never get the whole picture of it, but at this point Spike is the most underdeveloped character of the show, so any detail on his background is welcomed.

My headcanon is that there are actually many subspecies of Dragons, like to Ponies. So Spike could just be an earthdragon with some kind of magic. But Faust said that the magic-fire-breath was thought to him by Celestia.

I head-canon that he was raised with Twilight by her parents.

Now I ain’t sayin she in it for the gold flagons.

Well technically Spike could be Celestias or Twilights adopted son, since Twilight hatched him and Celestia practically raised him.  
So yeah, spike is kinda royal too.

Hmm. Makes sense. I would think nobody would really know about it, though. They certainly don’t treat him like royalty.

Oh, I dunno. I rather like having a character with a mysterious past. Gives us more head-canon to fire off. Like maybe Spike wasn’t just hatched by Twilight, but was actually created by her and that’s why he doesn’t seem to work like any other dragons, doesn’t have wings, and has magic fire.
