I cut out what I want to animate, then dice it up into individual sections in photoshop. (Arms, legs, buttes) Then I try to paint all of the empty space in the character so that when I move something there isn’t just a giant white space behind it. Then I take all the pieces into After Effects and use puppet tool and keyframes to achieve whatever effect I’m going for. Then I pop all of the frames back into photoshop to save as a gif. It’s an ineffective and messy system that leaves many tiny errors here and there, but it works. This one took around 2 hours from start to finish, but only because I didn’t feel like dealing with the arms.

A question for the animator:

(but seriously, Do you use flash to animate these? What tools do you use? How long does it take you? etc.)
