Well, some people are red/green colorblind. Still, being able to read “walk/don’t walk” doesn’t seem to be an overly-taxing requirement.
Some places might still have them, but many of them were replaced with iconographic traffic lights because its politically correct to accommodate for people who A. Can’t read English, and B. are stupid enough to try to cross when the thing you can’t read is indicating red rather than green.
