The thing is, Shining Armors wife was in Canterlot with the other princesses.
Seeing that it was normal guards behind Shining Armor and not Crystal guards, it make sense that Shining had followed his wife to Canterlot and tried to defend her against the new threat.
What doesn’t make sense is that Shining Armor would stay at the Crystal Empire, with normal uncrystal guards, having Tirek appear to suck them dry and in the next moment have Discord teleport him to the Canterlot palace.
Remember kids, never trust anyone.
Because Discord was taken by surprise and never expected to be betrayed.
Old Discord would have suspected this and probably turned Tirek into a goat, but since Discord was reformed he got the “weakness” in trusting others.
Slow reactions? Didn’t dodge the rainbow blast either… twice!
I don’t get why in that case Discord didn’t just bend reality then and make him a mouse or something.
It’s all basic math.
He can only suck magic from creatures that got the same or lower magical level as himself.
That’s why he didn’t start with hightier alicorns, he started with lowtier unicorns that didn’t have any magic-related cutiemark.
Once he sucked the power from 5 ponies connected to the Elements of Harmony, he had a higher magical level than Discord.
And yet he was still able to suck Discord dry like a swizzle stick of all of his magic, a being which until that point had been totally immune to everything ponies and gods alike had to throw at him.
Beyond their physical appearance I mean
I really hope that’s just an animation slip up, because one of the only interesting things the Crystal Ponies and Sombra had going were the implications that Crystal Ponies are some kind of Earth Pony derivative, and by extension of that, Sombra had to have come from somewhere else to conquer the empire. If it turns out that Crystal Ponies are just every type of pony with some bedazzle stuck on, then they lose the only thing keeping them from being completely bland and uninteresting.
I was about to say something like “Perhaps he’s just a regular pegasus who’s been in the Crystal Empire through the Crystal Fair so many times, that he’s become permanently crystallized”… but if that were true, then Cadence and Flash Century would be crystallized as well… so I’m not even going to mention it…. Oh…. whoops :\
Why would Tirek want a weakness like that in the first place?
I think Season 4 is Anon’s definition of “magicial artifact”.
